It was only a 2 1/2 hour drive to Duluth where we would see Lake Superior for the first time. We decided to stop in Pine City on the way, just off I 35 for a tour of an 1804 trading post. It had been a British post and the eight voyaguers from Quebec, hired by the North West Company, came from Quebec, riding in a large birch bark canoe with the representative from the North West Company. Jun 22, 2008 - Pine City, MN

After leaving the travel plaza Sunday a.m. and heading northwest through Wisconsin, we realized we were not far from some friends (Gerry and Arlene) from NY/FL who had a summer home in Pine City, MN. It was 3 hours out of our way but well worth the trip. They have a beautiful house on a gorgeous lake and Steven and Deanna had a great time fishing and swimming.
