Sep 7, 2011 - Home Again

Sep 7, 2011 Home Again Elk River, Mn Home again. Parking the Savoy was a bitch. Glad Erick was home to help. I got so frustrated that I just opened the truck door and got out, giving the job to Erick. He did a great job, doing it with the patience I did not have. Getting driving lessons is on my to do list. The Savoy is our second fifth wheel in 3 months. We bought a 2001 Silverado 2500HD with Duramax diesel engine and a Cedar Creek Silverback from a couple in Corcoran (about 2 miles down the road from where the Lichtenegger's lived in the...

Sep 6, 2011 - West Crooked Lake Resort

Having a beautiful weekend off we accepted an invite from our friends, Charlie and Connie, to visit them at West Crooked Lake Resort where they are the resort caretakers for the summer. After a lovely trip, driving through towns such as Cambridge, Princeton, St. Cloud, Royalton and Nevis we arrived at West Crooked Lake Resort. Such a pretty lake! It was so fun to visit with our friends as they took us on a delightful boat ride and then grilled yummy hamburgers on their deck. While at their place I was really excited to see a bald eagle...

Aug 31, 2011 - 1sr trip in our Savoy

Our first trip in the Savoy!! Labor Day weekend and heading out to Camper's Paradise near Nevis, Mn. Meeting up with our good friends Pat and Paula Donnelly and their family. Getting the Savoy packed up with gear and food keeping in mind we will have to winterize before we head south after Minnell retires on 1-3-2012. Sept. 4 The Savoy pulled beautifully and we got 13.01 mpg!!! I was a bit nervous about backing up into the campsite. Minnell was too. Wasted energy as I backed into the site my first attempt and put it down right where Minnell...

Jul 4, 2010 - Following tradition

Good to be back at our “home” church in Dorset for the Sunday service. We continued what has now seemed to become a 4th of July tradition with some of Nanc’s relatives over for a picnic. After a pleasant afternoon, we went into Park Rapids for the fireworks. They were perhaps some of the best we have ever seen!!! It has been a long day, getting back late and now only one day left to complete what needs to be done before heading to Houston and the LCMS convention.

Our Germany Trip

Jul 1, 2010 - To the Lake

So much for routine. We took off for the lake today, taking Dad with us. Thought it would be good to get him away for awhile as well as us needing to get there to “unload” some of our past season’s accumulation. We seem to keep in this “detour” mode. The lake was via Hastings to see our favorite dentist (Brother Edward) with both Dad and I having some work done. Finally arriving at the lake we see mowing has to be done here, so that will keep Dad busy for a couple days.

Our Germany Trip

Oct 9, 2009 - Overstayed

Have we overstayed? Snow begin this day and continued on-off thru Monday. This has been a lousy 2 weeks of October. Temps 20 degrees below normal and early snow! The motor home is getting a little antsy, especially after having learned in phone calls from snowbird friends already south, they have completed their winter sunburn stage and are now working on their vitamin D tan. We have come to the conclusion, no more “Winter Russian roulette”! We’re out of here Tues. Oct. 20th.

Sep 11, 2009 - Urgent phone call

Received a urgent/frantic phone call from Mom (Charlie’s). Dad had gone to a Sioux Falls hospital for a scheduled surgery with an overnight stay. However, because of complications, he ended up in a coma and then that “get down here now” family phone-call. So we quickly put a suitcase together and headed for Sioux Falls. Thankfully, by the time we got there he was out of the coma, but not “out of the woods”. We ended up staying with Mom in a nearby motel for the next 12 days. During this time Dad did improve, but was unable to return home...

Aug 24, 2009 - Just relaxing

After the last couple of chaotic, but fun weeks, it was time for a little relaxation. Nanc enjoyed our new patio with a friend, Nellie. We did have some more visitors and took in some Minnesota north woods culture with a night out at the Woodtick Theater in Ackley. As you can see we did do a little more fishing. How is that for a 36”, 12#-13# Northern? Largest fish Nanc has ever caught! Our resident eagle would show up every so often and duck hunt off of our dock.

Aug 13, 2009 - Grandchildren Visit

Twins and Danielle made it up to the lake and spent the next week in Vacation Bible School at church. After the usual wood gathering session we managed to get in a little recreational activity (fishing) and when Erik, Carol and Andrew arrived later, it was birthday time (Aug 22nd) with 17 people here. Although Danielle didn’t go fishing, she helped out making chokecherry jelly and syrup after the boys helped gather them. Erik finally got to catch some fish after trying for a few years. Meeting at church, of area churches, concluded with me...

Jul 14, 2009 - Firering Patio

We decide to improve our fire ring site and went to work preparing the area to lay a block “patio”. This turned into quite a task and took a week to complete. However, all that “work” was worth it and now we can sit around the fire without falling backwards in our chairs.

Jun 24, 2009 - Maintenance

Now some of the motor home maintenance needed to get done. Did the washing/waxing and greasing of the chassis but didn’t need to change oil. Using the AMZOIL synthetic with a lab analysis program has worked out to date. Saves on a big task! Had a persistent water leak on the roof that was finally run down. Had to replace the refrigerator vent cap and screening.

Jun 12, 2009 - At the Lake

After arriving back at the lake, late May, from our winter travels and doing some spring clean-up, we turned right around and headed back to Arizona for James and Rebecca’s wedding in Sedona. Yes, a June wedding in Arizona, expecting it to be quite warm. In Sedona it was just fine, but we took a trip down to Phoenix delivering the twins to their “other” grandparents, and it was 90+. Good thing we had only to deliver them instead of sticking around. After the wedding, we retrieved the twins and headed back to Minnesota stopping by the Black...
