Jun 27, 2012 - Little Falls, MN & Mille Lacs Lake

Wednesday, June 27 - St. Cloud, MN = Happy Birthday, Joyce! I can't think of a better way to celebrate a birthday (or any special day) than to be traveling this great country of ours. We're seeing some beautiful sites! Today, we're taking a road trip heading north to the town of Little Falls and surrounding area. Little Falls was established in 1848 and is one of the oldest cities in Minnesota. It's the county seat of Morrison County and has a population of about 8,343. The town is named after the falls that were located on the Mississippi...

Jul 24, 2011 - Where The Mississippi "Pauses"

From Crow Wing Lake Campground – Brainerd, MN Where it is said that the Mississippi “pauses” was the area to explore today. Here at the geographical center of the state of Minnesota the Ojibwa called it KaKaBikans……”the little squarely cut off rock”. It was a place where the Mississippi waters tumbled over an out-cropping of slate and granite to form a beautiful but sometimes tempestuous waterfall. It was these “little falls” in the river that attracted entrepreneurs to the area in the mid 1840s. In October 1849 a year after the town of...

Home Sweet RV - 2011

Jul 6, 2011 - Little Falls and Charles Lindbergh's Home

We left the coach this morning shortly after 9:00 a.m. heading south to Little Falls to visit the home of Charles A. Lindbergh and his family. The day held no threat of rain, and realizing this was a bit of a drive, we definitely didn’t want to undertake the drive and then be stuck in rain going or on the return trip. Charles A. Lindbergh, Jr. grew up in Little Falls and as a result put this Mississippi River town on the map. When Lucky Lindy landed his single-engine “Spirit of St. Louis” in Paris in 1927, he immediately became one of the...

Aug 29, 2008 - Randall, MN

Hi all, We had a wonderful time in ND visiting my family. I think Neil still gets a little overwhelmed with all of the relatives. One of the days we were there my Aunt Donna and Uncle Floyd had a little get-together at their farm in McClusky. I had a wonderful time visiting with cousins I hadn't seen in many, many years. It was a great afternoon. The first week in ND we stayed at my sister's (Diane) house on a neighbors RV pad. Her neighbor was gracious enough to let us use the pad and said we could stay as long as we wanted to. It was...

Aug 9, 2007 - Charles Lindbergh's Boyhood Home

(Continued from previous entry) We stopped in Little Falls at the Charles A. Lindbergh Historic Site, which was his boyhood home. This included a guided tour of his small home & a walk through the small museum. Can you maybe guess who manages this site.....yep, the Minnesota Historic Society!!!!! This was the smallest of the four MHS sites that we have seen, but the quality was just as good as the others. We are now sitting in the WalMart in Hutchinson, about 50 miles due west of Minneapolis. Tomorrow morning, before leaving here, we will...
