It rained hard all night, so we slept in a little. It stop raining for a while, so we puled out and stopped in Mitchell SD for gas. Since we were here we went into town to the Corn Palace for a quick tour. Then we headed for Minnesota. We are camped in the city park just below Larry's old high school for two nights. We had to go and have breakfast at the Lanesboro Dining Car. It is one of the few left in the country.Jump to full entry

Just a short return to Larry's hometown for a couple of days and then headed for home. Because of an electricity issue, we decided to not stay at the farm in Whalan, MN. and moved up to the city park in Lanesboro. We stayed here a couple of years ago for Larry's 50th class reunion. We spent 5 days in Lanesboro, MN. Lanesboro is 5 miles from Larry's hometown of Whalan. He went to Lanesboro High School here. We camped in Sylvan Park, It's the city park right next to the High School. We arrived on Wednesday to a basically empty campground. By Friday it was full with rv's and tents. We spent Friday night and Saturday night with about 30 of the 1964 Lanesboro HS graduates and their spouses at the VFW. Lots of memories were exchanged along with a few drinks and lots of good food. Jul 23, 2007 - Is There Anyplace We Really Don't Like???
We had a couple flex days built into our trip and we decided to spend them in southeastern Minnesota. Thanks to some good advise from friends, we chose Lanesboro for our stop. The campgrounds were full but a last minute cancellation found us a spot at the Eagles Cliff Campground just outside Lanesboro. For this next travel segment from Pierre to Lanesboro, we changed from Tortoise Travelers to Hare Travelers completing the nearly 500 miles in one day!
