Jul 12, 2012 - Chapter 12 Rally

The Chapter 12 Rally was great. Very laid back with wonderful food, great conversation and lots of places to visit if you wanted to and time to hang out if you didn't want to. Ron went with some of the guys to see a WWII museum where a guy had restored a lot of WWII planes. All were flyable and he proved it by flying over the campground in several different planes on a couple of the days. We only ate out once at the Casino but the buffet was great. My biggest problem is I can't eat like I want to and have to use portion control all the...

Jul 8, 2012 - On the road to MN

We were up, showered, breakfast and coffee, dumped the tanks, made the bed, packed up and on the road by 8:15. Not bad. Even better we were checked in, parked and set up by 11:30 - and we didn't even cross any time zones. The road from Sioux Falls to Granite Falls was pretty good except for the last 10 miles. Don't know who has the concrete concession or monopoly in the Midwest but I wish they would quit building roads. Especially roads with expansion joints. Tha thump, tha thump. I think we should make them all ride in an RV over the...

Summer 2012 Travels

Aug 31, 2010 - Time Out

We’re happy to report that it rained overnight. This was a “vacation day”: we slept late, went to the casino, had promotional 99 cent burgers for lunch, and played some slots (Marcia “up” slightly). The sun came out and it was about 86 degrees. We took advantage by reading in the sun and cleaning the front of the Bighorn. Then we grilled out and watched a movie.

Aug 30, 2010 - Prairie's Edge in MN

There was a huge rain storm in the early a.m., after which it remained very windy and under 60 degrees. We headed south and east and shared some of the towing, as the roads are a bit more predictable now. We covered about 330 miles and arrived at Prairie's Edge Casino and RV Park in Granite Falls. We're not purposely "making the casino rounds" as someone asked, but we thought a new park rated at 10-10-10 was worth checking out. All the sites are full hookup pull-throughs with parking slabs, patios, fire ring, table, grass, and tiny trees....

May 8, 2010 - Granite Falls

We spent a good part of the morning inside doing laundry and trying to stay warm… Gee it is cold and suppose to get even colder tonight. The sun has come out but that is not a good thing with the cold front that came through… We are lucky because we didn’t get any snow in our area but I think we would prefer that to the wind we had. Anyway, I was able to get my sheets clean and changed as well as a few more loads of laundry… We have either been on the move or spending time with friends and relatives for quite some time now and I really got...

May 7, 2010 - Minnesota Welcome/ Bah Humbug

Once we left Topeka, the beautiful weather we had been having made a turn for the worse. The further north we went the windier it got… We had planned on going up route 75 til we found a place to go over to I-29 which was in Nebraska and heading toward Missouri… We made the turn at Auburn,NB. It was only about 18 miles to I-29 but by the time we got half way we came to the bridge that crossed the Missouri River…. It was under construction and only had a skinny lane going across with the max of 10’6’…oops, I mean 8'6". Well we are 8’ and when...

May 11, 2009 - North woods to Great Plains

. We arrived at the Prairie View RV Park and Campground in Granite Falls, MN after a 287 mile "difficult" drive today. Not to worry...both equipment and bodies are just fine. I am really tired this evening so I will fill in the details after we move along to South Dakota tomorrow. We are on our way west!!! Update added 5/12: For several reasons I wanted to take back country roads from Wisconsin to Granite Falls in Minnesota, but primarily, I had a desire to avoid Interstate Highways as much as possible and enjoy the countryside. In this...

May 21, 2008 - Granite Falls, MN

Granite Falls, Minnesota is a small town near the border of South Dakota known for the Prairie Edge Casino. Since Butch did so well in Minneapolis, we decided to try our luck here. You would have thought that we won enough money to rent the entire RV park, because we had the whole place to ourselves. Well, we didn't do quite that well, but we did have a good time.
