Sep 4, 2012 - You Can't Roller skate in a Buffalo Herd

Wow! Slept surprisingly well for being in a rest area with trucks coming and going all night. We woke up at about 6:00 a.m. We had a pleasant breakfast of eggs and yogurt with Constant Comment Tea. While eating our breakfast we had unexpected visitors outside our window. (see picture) Two buffalo were eating grass just outside our window alongside the camper. Now I understand where the unusual deposits around the rest stop came from. It gives new meaning to the old song, “You Can’t Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd”. I can’t get the old songs...

Sep 3, 2012 - First Day

We left home at about 12:30 a.m. We stopped for gas twice and ended our day’s travels at Fergus Falls Minnesota at about 10:30 a.m. Ruthie made ham sandwiches after we took a nap, showered and walked Sugar. We were ready to continue on at about 2:30 p.m. This was a good plan, being Labor Day and all. Traffic was light while we drove through the early morning hours and we slept during the midday traffic. After eating we walked Sugar. She doesn’t like trucks and had no interest in anything except getting back in the fifth wheel. It was quite...

Jul 20, 2011 - "Visitors are above average" :-)

7/19 Well – Tuesday was an excellent Day! We stopped at the Trading Post Store before starting on the road and bought some nice moccasins and a birthday card for Michelle! We stopped at a picnic spot by a lovely waterfall for lunch on the Serpent River… Walked and ate and took a photo for y’all. Had an easy pass through Canada (a little hesitation over our temporary plate “Did you make that?” - then a nice chat). Drove to Hiawatha National Forest , Bay Furnace Campground – right on the southern shore of Lake Superior. It was lovely! Packet...

Jul 11, 2009 - Night at a rest stop on I-94

I crossed the Red River that borders North Dakota and Minnesota at Grand Forks and East Grand Forks around 5 PM. There was a campground on the river on the Minnesota side, but I traveled on, as I wasn't hungry and I have a lot of miles to go and I didn't want to spend money to sleep and not use the park's amenities. I found out that trucks can park at rest areas for 10 hours while cars can park for 6. I consider myself a truck - a good thing. I couldn't stay at the quiet rest area on Route 2 though, because I came in just before 6 PM and...

May 30, 2009 - Across ND to Medora and the TR Nat Park

We are up early at the WalMart in Fergus. With a quick breakfast and we hit I-94 West and soon cross over into North Dakota at Fargo. A quick stop for gas which is $2.499 per gallon and we head on. A pleasant surprise is the quality of the road surface here. Much better than that in Minnesota where some sections of 94 just about shook us apart. With stop for a Quick lunch and to walk Pookie, we decide it is early enough in the day to make it all the way to TR National Park and still have time to do a bit of touring. We were in the Southern...

Mar 8, 2005 - Back Home

We made it home without incident. It seems that Okun is aging very quickly. She appears to be blind and deaf - she already had a problem listening, so this should be fun. We are home through Saturday and then off to the British Virgin Islands for a sailing vacation - it is about time we finally get a vacation!!!
