Aug 9, 2012 - Road to Richmond is a long one ....

So I’m late again! Too many projects and not enough time! So, I guess I left off on Tuesday evening....After the rain storm, tourist attractions, shopping, riding, buffalo, etc. (did I mention buffalo last time? I’ll get back to that) they called it a night early. Tommy, Dee, Norwood and Ashley left Wednesday and were headed to Cody, WY then on Yellowstone, Grand Tetons and ending up in Jackson Hole, WY. Dee will be flying out from there on Saturday and heading back to the bach and the rest will make their way back by bike eventually!. So...

Sturgis 2012

Jul 5, 2012 - Music with Friends

We decided to stay another day here at the Flying Goose. We are so tired that we needed a full day to relax, and boy, did we ever. We walked down to the lake and sat on the dock for a while, read our books, and did a load of wash. I realized that I had not been able to mention our wonderful time at the campfire with friends that we shared last Wednesday. So many things were done that week that I just didn’t have the space for the photos or the entry. Now is a good time. We were so fortunate to have three great local singing artists come...

Yippee Tyo's!

Jul 4, 2012 - 4th of July in Minnesota

Happy 4th of July to America! We hope you were able to spend the day with friends and/or family, had a little BBQ and saw some fireworks. What a glorious way to celebrate the birthday of this fabulous country we live in. We woke up this morning and remembered we were now on Central Time. Moved over to a new time zone. Had some breakfast then headed into town to see what their festivities were going to be. We drove through downtown, and it was completely deserted. Everything, and I mean, everything was closed down. It was strange not seeing...

Yippee Tyo's!

Jul 3, 2012 - The Corn Palace & Corn Fields

Today started off just fine. We were packed up and ready to leave about 10:30 and since we did not disconnect from the truck it was gonna be easy to leave. Hmmmm. Well, I thought I would be helpful while John was unhooking the electric and water by turning on the air conditioner so the car would be comfortable for us when we took off. I asked for his keys, leaped in the truck, turned the air conditioner to full blast, got out and slammed the truck door closed. We are ready to go, John goes to open the truck door and it is locked! I swear,...

Yippee Tyo's!

Jul 31, 2011 - Somewhere in Minnesota

We left De Smet and found an RV park slightly less than two hundred miles away. This is a long drive for us. We were able to stop in Fairmont, MN at a Walmart and stock up on some supplies, and although we stayed for two nights, we didn't even unhitch the toad. It was humid, humid, HUMID! Walking outside felt like someone had slapped you with a warm washcloth right in the face. We were able to get some satellite signal, but for some reason 110 satellite wasn't visible where we were. We had an OK internet signal though. We stayed inside...

Two Hams in a Can

Sep 24, 2010 - City of Lakes

We had MUCH better weather today. The rain finally stopped, but we are still dealing with some very strong winds. We did get out and do a couple of geocaches and checked out the city of Fairmont. The city is also known as the City of Lakes. It has five beautiful lakes and over 400 acres of parks. We found two cool geocaches, one near Amber Lake. The water level of the lake was so high the dock was almost under water and the benches looked like they are floating on the top of the water. I feel sorry for all the the people with flooded homes...

Sep 23, 2010 - Rain Rain Go Away

We have safely arrived after a very long day. We had really heavy rain and winds up to 30 miles an hour. We had problems with the slide top blowing and had to stop and fix it at a rest area. Minnesota has had over 10 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. They said it's about the amount they normally get in three to four months. The campground we had planned to stop at told us not to come. We called to see how wet it was and she said it was flooded and they were using crates to get around their sites. We were happy to find The Flying Goose...

Jul 17, 2010 - Evacuated!!

We have started our trek east to the western PA/eastern OH area to visit family and attend the "Maietta" reunion. We stopped in Welcome, MN (a little town just west of Fairmont) for the night. After having a nice dinner, we decided to retire early since we had a long drive day. About ten o'clock we heard a loud pounding on our door and the owner of the campground was there to tell us that there had been a tornado watch and to get ready to go to the local church if the watch turned to a warning. And of course, it did so we spent about an...

The motorhome is still in Forest City, Iowa. Meanwhile we have been guests of DuWayne and Vicki Greiner at their home. Sam (the attitude kitty) is with us and has taken over their home almost. DuWayne and Vicki have been going to work everyday, so we have had dinner ready for them when they arrive home. We have the doctor appts completed, the radiator flushed in the Jeep, etc and the motorhome is supposed to be ready on Friday! We were going to head out, but the plans have changed to stay for the weekend, then Sally will get the drivers...

We were going to stay at Pipestone State Park, but when we talked to Gary, he said "Come on in - it's not much further!", so we did. A thousand miles in two days - we broke all of Jack's rules. We did enjoy the beauty and serenity of the park. It's so peaceful there. Friday and Monday we saw the doctors. Jack is scheduled for surgery on his hand for Thursday to fix the trigger finger. Thursday night we went to the Derby with Helen and Harry. It was great seeing them again. One night we went out to eat with DuWayne & Vickie, and Judy & Wayne...

Sep 7, 2009 - Still at The Flying Goose

Still here. Another nice day but real heavy fog this morning. Many of the seasonal neighbors have been by to talk about our trip, share their travels and ask if we are from New York (as in city). The Goose as we call it is run by a farming family. They purchased the campground 4 years ago and are the nicest people you could meet. We spent the afternoon on the neighbors deck discussing travels with a group of the neighbors. After dinner and carrot cake from the neighbors we started packing for an early start tomorrow, laundry done, trailer...
