Went to De Smet, ND, home of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Toured 1 of her "little house" homesites, school, town, etc. Finally ended up at Blue Mound (MN) State PArk -near National Monument of the same name. Most expensive campgrn yet-$21. Home to 1 of the 2 quarries where America Indians mined the soft red rock that made ALL peace pipes used in America.

Aug 30, 2006 - Part 8 Blue Mounds and a Black Eye
Our odyssey left the Oregon Trail. We drove north along the Missouri River on I 29 and the along the banks of the Big Sioux River. We went through the three Siouxs. First, Little Sioux, Iowa, then Sioux City, Iowa, and lastly Sioux Falls, SD, before we turned east on I 90. We drove through rich farm land with fields of corn, alfalfa, wheat, etc. Cows were is the pastures. There was the ubiquitous grain elevator in every small town beside the railroad.
