Aug 13, 2014 - Baxter, MN - A Short Travel Day in Lake Country

(Ron Writing) We spent the morning working on the blog and doing a few other chores. This afternoon we headed northeast on M-34 to Akeley, MN, then south on M-64 to Backus, MN, and then south on M-371 to Baxter, MN. This route runs through small towns, forested land, and few farms. This is also “lake country” and we passed many of those “10,000 Lakes” for which Minnesota is famous. Sep 17, 2013 - Hambrook Heritage and breaking news from home

Decided we better go to the library to research a little more. Thinking there should be news articles about the building of that barn. To no avail. We did look through some local history books and found that the present owner of the property is 3rd generation and it's a centennial farm. We did find his phone number and plan to contact him once we get back home. We also went back to the courthouse and got the marriage record of Betsy Olson and Mark Hambrook. They actually have the original document but wouldn't let us have it...copied it...

Aug 9, 2007 - Late Night Change of Plans

(Continued from previous entry) Back in the bus, headed to the Brainerd / Baxter (sister cities), Minnesota, WalMart. We were going to make a major grocery run there, & since we were there late in the evening, decided that that would be our home du jour. We had planned to go to Gull Lake (COE) Campground just north of Brainerd for 3-4 nights, moving there this morning.
