Aug 11, 2015 - Visiting old college friend

August 11 Breakfast with Phil, Shirley and Steve — John cooked his famous omelets and we had cinnamon buns, coffee, and leftover watermelon from the previous nights gathering. Phil and Shirley packed up and headed out to the Wisconsin Dells. Glad to hear they arrived safely and hope they have a great time :0) Tony Deangelis (John's MN University Fraternity buddy) stopped by for coffee and a long visit in the afternoon. Tony has finally retired and says, “Now every day is Saturday!” It was good to see him again.

Jun 22, 2014 - Day 5 meeting more friends

It was raining as we left Clear Lake, IA this morning, but stopped about a half-hour into the trip. The campground, Lebanon Hills, is a very nice spot and we had a long pull through off the beaten path and all to ourselves. However, there was standing water and it was pretty muddy, so Phil asked if they had any other spots. The owners said they were expecting another inch of rain tonight so we could move to higher ground if we wanted to so, even though it's a back in, we're in a much nicer spot. I was blessed, yet again, to meet 2 more of...

Jun 17, 2014 - Drive to Lebanon Hills Campgroud - Apple Valley, MN

Tuesday, June 17. Woke up in Osceola, Iowa to the sun-shining, the wind calmer and no bad weather from all the predictions the day before. We were happy that we took the precautions serious and stayed in the hotel, but it ended up not being necessary except for having a peaceful sleep without worrying all night. Left the hotel at approximately 10 am and started our drive to Minnesota. The drive from Iowa to Minnesota showed us the beautiful, well-maintained farm-lands, which was quite pleasant. Many of the farms had houses with barns that...

Oct 4, 2012 - Missed the snow but had lots of wind going south

Got up and headed out of Tower, Minnesota ASAP. We did not want to drive in snow. A few hours later it stated snowing in Tower and they got a couple of inches. It was 240 miles to Apple Valley south of the Twin cities. Grey cloudy skies the whole way down south. A misty drizzle the first two hours that never got the road wet but made a mess of the windshield. We ate lunch in our trailer at a rest stop. The trees are becoming more colorful as we headed south. Have since found out that usually their trees are every bit as colorful as the...

Sep 9, 2011 - Amana Colonies and Minnesota

Well everybody, I'm back on the road again and this time I brought along a traveling companion besides Eddie. My former MIL, Connie, is with me and we are having a wonderful time. We left Lima on Friday, Sept 9th and stopped in northern Illinois at Kankakee River state park for our first night. The park was mostly deserted, except for several families with young children who thought it was a good idea to let them run and scream well past 9:30 at night and let them start up again at 6:47 am. Since we were up anyway we decided to head west to...

Kel's Travels

Aug 28, 2011 - Fer Shuer

Lola and I just finished visiting with Doreen and Jake and their great family. We spent the day catching up and had a fantastic rib dinner. Of course it would not be a family visit without Barry poking his head in. He tried to take over the TV but Callie would have none of that and gave him a good scolding. So he tried complaining to her dad but that went nowhere. So he decided to try to become a regular part of the family. But when we left he somehow managed to sneak back into the truck. The pictures today may not mean a lot to most of...

Jun 17, 2011 - Arrived in Apple Valley, MN (south of Minneapolis)

We continued to enjoy our visit with Randy and Konnie when they returned to Lake Okoboji to spend two more days with us before we departed for Apple Valley, Minnesota. They continued to prepare wonderful meals, the weather cooperated and we had a really special, fun-filled time together. We left CenLa RV Park just shy of 0900 today heading up to I-90E to I-35N and our short 191 mile move! One of the rest stops we pulled into had a wonderful historic marker that was particularly significant to me because it was commemorating I-90, the...

Jun 12, 2011 - Minneapolis, Minnesota

Driving through Illinois today was Russell's kind of driving - wide open spaces and hardly any cars on the road. Just miles and miles of soy fields, silos and red barns. I always knew Russell loved me, but today I found out just how much.... we had a choice of two routes to take today - one was an hour shorter, but the other one took us through Iowa, which I wanted to say we had been through, so he drove an hour extra just to please me! We were on the road by 6:30 AM and stopped at our first real campground in Apple Valley, MN at 4:30 PM....

May 9, 2010 - Mother's Day

Today is a testament to the fickle weather in Minnesota. Woke up to a heavy frost with the temp. to be 10 degrees below normal (60 instead of 70). Keeps us thinking that we could spend more time further south and follow the “comfort zone” temperatures on our returns north. But then some activity seems to get in the way of that plan. Mother’s Day at Carol’s for dinner and afternoon fun. Boys rode around on their new 4-wheeler then we all played some Frisbee horseshoes. Little difficult to make ringers with these!

Dragging our feet

Oct 25, 2009 - At Carol's

After church we made it to daughter Carol’s, cheering the Vikings on to their first season loss and then a delicious chili dinner. The unseasonable weather has continued making the chili extra tasty and “hit the spot”. We made our Santa delivery, gave our departing hugs to the grandkids, and back to Farmington.
