Oct 11, 2013 - August--SD, MN, WI
August: August was “vacation mode” for us! We moved and traveled a lot! We left Pagosa Springs the 30th of July and headed to South Dakota. We were going to skip Sturgis this year, but some good friends of ours, Mike and Dalis, had just bought a new motorhome and wanted to try it out, so we met them at Whispering Winds Campground, just outside Hill City SD. This was the 73rd Anniversary of the Sturgis Bike Rally. Kim has been going since sometime in the 70’s---and I started going in 1986, so except for maybe two years we have been there...Jump to full entry
Sep 23, 2013 - Day 35: Home Sweet Alexandria
Miles: 433 Total Miles to Alaska and Back: 6220 I am very late writing this wrap-up and as one reader wrote, it takes more time to write the blog than the trip took. Actually, the unpacking, laundry, mountain of mail, and cleaning the camper took us a few days. When we were just arriving at Moorhead, I told Paul that our trip to Phoenix would be a piece of cake after this trip. I believe he actually growled at me. Yes, he did way more of the driving than I did, but I was lively, charming and chatty the whole way to keep him company (I...Jump to full entry
Aug 10, 2013 - Preparing for the Journey
Paul's Ford F150 truck is being tasked with hauling our 5th wheel and its contents, including us, to Alaska. We plan to leave on Thursday, August 15 and will be gone approximately 5 weeks. We have been busy the last few days loading up and preparing ourselves mentally to live in a tiny space. We will have a laptop, two cell phones, Paul's Asus tablet and my Nexus 7 reader with us. Therefore, we should be well connected. We will be able to receive email and text messages, but perhaps not in real time. Our friends in Alexandria are...Jump to full entry
Sep 19, 2012 - Destination California, Headed East?
We were up early and on the road before 8AM headed east on I-94 on our way to Alexandria, Mn. Good thing we are headed east because we had a 20-30MPH coming out of the NW so it should help on the gas mileage. Stopped off in Fargo, ND to fill up at the Sam's club then continued on to Fergus Falls, Mn before stopping for lunch. Mostly cattle farms with large fields of corn and soy beans with a few lakes. It was shortly after 3PM when we pulled into Don's Leisure RV Park on Lake Cowdry in Alexandria, MN. It is too cold and windy to go out so I...Jump to full entry
Aug 7, 2010 - Work, Work, Work
It's remarkable how many opportunities open up to meet with customers, potential customers, co-workers, etc. as we travel. Being back in Alexandria is like going full circle (literally) from where our adventures started 4 years ago. Everything has changed, but somehow stays the same.Jump to full entry
May 23, 2009 - Thank goodness for country roads!

May 23, 2008 - Montana, North dakota, Oh My!
Well the snow and Rain Finally ended, but was replaced with a strong head wind that put a big boot on the butt of my carbon foot print. We left Miles City MT at 7:00 am for a long day of adventure that included driving all the way across ND in one day. We did take a rest stop and visited the state capital in Bismark, but other than that the most interesting thing we saw was how diverse the "road kill" was. Seriously, even with the number of road kill the the prairie landscape is colorful and interesting this time of year. We spent the night...Jump to full entry
Jul 2, 2005 - On to Minnesota
Day 22 - Saturday, July 2, 2005 Finally leaving North Dakota today. Sure is a big state. We headed for Alexandria Minnesota to the Rune stone Museum for a little Viking history. In the late 1800s, a farmer found a rune stone. For years, they thought it was a fake, but not it's clear that it is not. There is much compelling evidence that the Vikings were in Minnesota in the 1300s. An interesting museum. We took the dogs for a little walk along the shore of a small lake. We decided to go all the way to Minneapolis tonight. Mike and Amanda...Jump to full entry
Jun 24, 2005 - Sinclair Lewis Campground, Sauk Centre, MN
On Friday morning, June 24, we departed Mitchell, South Dakota and arrived in Sauk Centre, Minnesota late afternoon. This town is near Jim's parents who live in an assisted living apartment in Melrose, MN. Also, Jim's brother, Ron, and his wife, Karen live in Melrose, too. The campground is right on Sauk Lake. Our trailer was situated on a hill overlooking the lake. We spent a lot of time with Jim's family during the week, dining out, or in, just being together. Jim's sister, Mary Jane, spent one evening with us in the trailer just to see...Jump to full entry
