Nov 10, 2019 - And We're Off!

We got away from home about as fast as we could, which ended up being about Noon! We had to leave then as we could not fit one more thing into the car, even if it was just a piece of paper. The rain held off so we were driving on clear roads and we made it to Mackinaw City in time for us to eat lunch at Audies. We crossed over the bridge and it only cost us $4.00 instead of the $16.00 it used to cost us in the RV. Love seeing the bridge and always enjoy crossing the straits into the Upper Peninsula. We had planned to take US2 in St. Ignace,...

Aug 22, 2018 - Ready, Set, Go

This may be our last trip in the motorhome. Ed has been diagnosed with Parkinson Disease and we are not sure what the future holds for us, but have decided to make this our last year to travel in the RV. We have seen a lot of sights, made a lot of memories and met some great friends throughout our travels. While this may be our last trip in our RV, we have a lot to look forward to. First up is the wedding of our daughter, Kristine, in Idaho in September. We are very excited for her and can't wait to add a son-in-law to our family. We're...

Jul 14, 2018 - West Branch Mi Lake of the Woods campgrounds

Saturday July 14 Its cloudy now but forecast for our destination is clear skies. Heading north toward Sault Ste. Marie on our route we stopped at Cross in the woods at Indian River, absolutely amazing Went over Mackinaw Bridge was foggy, still an awesome experience. Arrived at elks to spend 2 nights. Unfortunately nothing available for tonight, however they said if other campgrounds are full come back will find a space for us. We end up coming back; we are boondocking tonight and will get a hook up tomorrow. Beautiful view here on the shore...

Jun 3, 2016 - Home Again, Home Again

This last update is overdue as we got home safe and sound last week. The unpacking has been completed and we are back in the swing of things and have already played golf, mowed the lawn, planted flowers and reacquainted ourselves with friends and family. Our trip home was uneventful (fortunately) but LONG. We left the motorhome in Boise and just drove the car home. We are not use to such a confined space and such long driving days. We didn’t like having to haul all our stuff into motels every night and then try to cram it all back into the...

Oct 22, 2015 - The Beginning

Finally..............after having the RV in the body shop for about 2 months getting fixed after the massive and destructive hail storm we had back in August, and after replacing the refrigerator doors, the muffler, all the filters, and 2 new tires, we are ready to hit the road again. Our bank account is looking pretty sad, but our spirits are high. It's always a challenge getting ready to leave and trying to wrap up all our business, remembering all the details of leaving the house for the winter and packing everything in the motorhome. I...

Jun 5, 2015 - Our Trip Recap

Our loop is complete and we are home. After almost 8,000 miles, through 17 States and 7 ½ months later, we pulled into our driveway with a little bit of happiness to be home and a little bit of regret that this year’s journey is over. We stayed at (in order of frequency) Coast to Coast parks, State Parks, Elk Lodges, County Parks, Passport American parks, Corps of Engineer Parks, Walmart parking lots and BLM lands. A very nice park near Tucson, AZ was our most expensive stay and, of course, the desert was free. Walmart doesn’t charge to...

Oct 16, 2014 - And We're Off

Whew! After finishing up (almost) our outstanding files at work, closing the office and moving everything to our new office/bedroom at home, packing up the motorhome, getting the house and yard ready for our departure, saying good-bye to all our friends (sad face), we were finally ready to hit the road -- and it was already 3:00 pm. We had joked about we were leaving town on Thursday, even if we only drove to the Walmart in Houghton Lake. (That is about 25 miles west of us!). So even with a late start, we took off and drove about 4 hours...

Jul 7, 2014 - We Are In Michigan

After a week in Ohio, we are in Michigan. Today we go to a campground at the foot of the bridge crossing the strait between the lower and upper peninsulas. While in Ohio I got to spend plenty of time with my buddy, John. We visited the AMA motorcyle museum and a privstely owned military museum. Great fun...we also had lunch in a different grill every day. Not sure what Pat and Connie did. Shop I think. 324 miles Saturday...124 yesterday...134 today...I'm done with driving for a while. Hoping that a week in the campground wil have me ready...

May 12, 2014 - Home Sweet Home

It’s been cold, windy, rainy, cold………………yup, we’re back in Michigan. We left sunny, warm Nashville and drove through Louisville, Kentucky and into southern Indiana. It was still sunny, but you could feel the chill in the air. We stayed at an RV park that night as it was suppose to get down to the 40s and we wanted to stay warm so we needed electricity to plug in the heater. Every mile north we saw that the trees had less leafing out and we were starting to lose the redbuds and flowering dogwoods. We took back roads through Indiana and...

Oct 1, 2013 - And We're Off.........

Finally -- 2 weeks later than we planned, we are finally on the road heading west. We are comfortably ensconced in our little home away from home and can't wait for all the adventures and sights to see that are ahead of us. Hope you will follow along and enjoy the ride too. Made it over the Mackinaw Bridge (with an escort as the winds were too high for high-profile vehicles) and spent the night in the Kewadin Casino parking lot. We were exhausted so had no problem sleeping under the parking lot lights. Drove through the UP and were...

Apr 25, 2012 - Home, Sweet Home

The circle is complete - we're home! What a great trip we had. We were gone 7 months, drove over 7200 miles, were in 19 states, had lots of adventures, visited family and friends, saw new sights and familiar sights, stayed in some great parks and campgrounds and only had to dodge one tornado. We enjoyed it all and can't wait until we get to go again. Thanks for reading my trip journal and your positive comments. Now we start back up to work and dream about when we can head out again. Have a wonderful summer.
