Aug 5, 2017 - South Haven, MI Asphalt Campgrounds

We made it as far as South Haven, MI today. We checked out a couple of campgrounds for the evening, but forgot! We usually don't try to camp on the fly on the weekends because....everything was full up. Also, being right on the lakeshore around here probably fills them up every weekend. Oh well, can't beat the price of the Asphalt Campgrounds.

Jun 29, 2015 - Golf and Vet

I had an appointment at a local vet for Obie, got some medicine to hopefully help with the sneezing and congestion - his nose is really stopped up. The vet did not want to take samples for lab work so I just got 2 bottles of medicine and hope it will help him. Ray played Golf at the Beeches course that is about 1 1/2 miles from the park - $35 for seniors during the week including a hot dog. It was comfortably cool and overcast, misted while he was on the course but as soon as he got back we had a really hard downpour. He got off the course...

Jun 28, 2015 - Holland

Today we drove to Holland and stopped at Nelis Dutch Village first to check out the shops, they sell wooden shoes and many were beautifully painted - there are shoes to try on for sizing. They also had a great selection of Delft pottery and were making beautiful candles in the shop area in the back. This is too much of a children't venue and we proceeded to the Windmill Island instead. This area has been constructed to show the Dutch way of life. There are canals and draw bridges. The main attraction is DeZwaan - a windmill brought over...

Jun 27, 2015 - South Haven

We went downtown and it is really neat. Many old storefronts with great gift shops. There are barges with boats built on them on the river that are bars and restaurants. It's very busy here as this is the termination of a yacht race from Milwaukee to South Haven across Lake Michigan. We went to the Maritime Museum and just barely got a parking spot, the 1800's ship replica that is normally located outside the museum is at the downtown harbor, so we just saw it from afar, as we later went that way. The museum has good exhibits and a room...

Jun 26, 2015 - Sunny Brook

Greg at Trees to These is just the best. In the AM Ray swept the rain off the awnings and we drove to Greg's. He installed the refrigerator panel - now it looks as if it was part of the original coach. He will notify us when he has the vent covers and we'll get them in January or before. We were done by 11 and on our way. Hit a couple of slow spots due to road construction and a rougher road as soon as we got into Michigan but otherwise had a good drive to South Haven, This is an upscale RV park that reminds us of Sauble Beach as there are...

Aug 30, 2012 - Southwest Michigan

We arrived in South Haven, MI after an easy three hour drive from Joliet. Our base in this area is the Sunnybrook RV Resort, a terrific new park with spacious sites and great facilities. We’re looking forward to some “park time” and just vegging, along with venturing out to explore Michigan’s Southwest Shore. South Haven is a small (4,000 population) resort town on the shores of Lake Michigan. It has a small, quaint downtown shopping/restaurant area, a boat basin and a navigation channel leading to the Lake along a long breakwater which...

Oct 3, 2011 - Saying Farewell to Michigan in Collages

About to leave another state and another one we have thoroughly enjoyed exploring. We know this will be a place we’d like to come back and explore more thoroughly at some point in the future. We discovered some unique things here in Michigan we thought interesting. The first one was only in the Upper Peninsula (UP) and done by the forest industry. There are more than 19.3 million forested acres in Michigan, with 8.7 million acres in the UP. And as one might imagine, the forest industry is an integral part of the UP’s economy. Michigan...

Oct 2, 2011 - Our Home for the Last Week; South Haven

Another wonderful town in western Michigan to stay in and explore. Charming, quaint and well, a pretty time to see this part of the state too! We certainly had our fair share of rain since we arrived, but fortunately the times we went into South Haven we were lucky. South Haven was once the center of Michigan’s “fruit belt” and still is a leading producer of blueberries and peaches. Definitely the lake is responsible for the well-drained soil and the moderate temperature effects from prevailing west winds. The fruit belt had its origins...

Sep 25, 2011 - A Rainy Ride to South Haven

We were up early and heading out of the Little River Casino Resort and RV Park by 8:00 a.m. so we could arrive in South Haven to allow enough time for us to get set up and be fully operational for the football games today. With only 154 miles to drive, not a problem. The rains held off until we left the RV Park, and I mean that literally. As soon as we made the right hand turn out of the park, the rains began and still haven't let up. They have gone from light sprinkles to wind-shield wipers on high heavy. The rear view camera was totally...

Aug 22, 2008 - South Haven, MI

Camping at South Haven, MI for 13 days to get through Labor Day. We were going to stop at a place in Jones, MI but the campground and the "manager" were so nasty that we turned around and left. Kathy broker a tooth yesterday, so our priority is finding a dentist that can get a crown done quickly. This is our first medical mishap since we've been on the road. :) I'll have pictures later. Happy Labor Day!

Jul 11, 2008 - Two Nights in South Haven, Michigan

From Monroe on the shore of Lake Erie we moved west to South Haven on the shore of Lake Michigan. It takes about 3 1/2 hours to travel across the state- about two hundred miles from shore to shore. Here we spent two nights in the Sunny Brook RV Resort a couple of miles east of town. This was a stop-over to do laundry, have a little down time, and do a little housecleaning before moving on an hour north to Holland. The resort had been opened only six weeks. In addition to providing rental space for folks traveling through, it is selling...

Jun 29, 2008 - Aye, Aye, Jack Sparrow

After a short three hour drive this morning, we came into VanBuren State Park in South Haven, Michigan. We got here four hours before check-in, so we spent some time at their beach on Lake Michigan. The water was warm and the sand clean. The kids had a great time jumping the waves in their clothes. The first laundry day may come sooner than we thought! After eating at the park, we were able to get into our camp site and set up. After a quick clean up (with hair doing all around) we were off to our surprise destination... The first part of...
