Jun 21, 2018 - Saginaw MI

Thu, 21 Jun: North to Michigan... Today's drive took us from Howe Indiana to Saginaw Michigan. This is a drive we've made several times so it was all familiar. Most important, at the end of our drive we had hugs and warm welcomes waiting. Bob pulled out of our site a bit after eleven and drove the short distance to the dump station. Sandi followed with the car. Bob handled the dump and Sandi hooking up the car. Things work so much smoother when we divide and share the labor. Once Carpe's tanks were dutifully dumped and rinsed, we did a...

Jun 26, 2016 - Saginaw, MI

Sun, 26 Jun: A quick drive north... After an enjoyable rally with the Water Wonderland Winnies (Michigan chapter) it was time to bade farewell to the Wayne County Fairgrounds. "Bade" is hardly the word as we had to be gone by noon. We took a real lazy approach to this departure. We had several chores to do, most notably Bob had to drain & flush our holding tanks. We'd watered up, so that wasn't on the "honey-do" list. Once all was completed, check list done, car connected, and good-byes said Sandi rolled wheels at 1025. It was a quick...

Aug 30, 2013 - Saginaw, MI

Fri, 30 Aug: A short and thoroughly enjoyable travel day... As we anticipated, the weekend campers started arriving for the long holiday. They bring many kids, dogs, and (for some reason that totally escapes us) smokey campfires. Will someone please explain why folks find it necessary to have a campfire when the temperature is in the eighties? Anyway, we had a very enjoyable week visiting Kampvilla, but it was time to leave it for the weekenders. We weren't, however, in too much of a rush as we didn't roll wheels until well after...

Aug 14, 2012 - A/C work at Cummins in Saginaw

We turned the air conditioning on about a week ago and Rick heard an unusual noise....the bearings are starting to go on one of the motors. So, we found out who could replace the bearings and got them on order along with the most common things that have to be replaced around the same time and made an appointment for 8am tomorrow to get the parts replaced at Saginaw Cummins. We were happy to only have to run the air conditioning twice last week and both times it kept running. Instead of making the 2 hour drive between Oscoda and Saginaw...

Summer 2012

Jun 26, 2011 - Saginaw, MI

Sat, 25 Jun: No alarm this morning, but we were both up a bit after seven. Following breakfast we got Carpe ready for the road and got rolling about 0830. We departed Lebanon not really sure if we'd drive all the way to Saginaw or not, with a midpoint Sam's Club as a possible overnite. We drove along Ohio 123 to I 75 and proceeded north. The weather was gorgeous, sunny and not too hot. The winds picked up later in the day, but the morning was fine. We made a fuel stop at Pilot in Findlay, OH, where we finally found some diesel at...

Aug 19, 2007 - Detroit, MI

We enjoyed the Soo area. The tour boat ride was great. It takes about an hour only for them to pull in the lock under their own power, be raised or lowered and pull out. One that was full came in and when they lowered it we could hardly see the deck! They are very low in the water when loaded. We got to go over the big bridge near Mackinaw Island. Our trip that day took us from SSM to near Saginaw. It was a cool, windy day. Real bad on the water for anyone. We found that where we stayed that night they had had about 3 inches of rain just...

Jul 10, 2006 - McGregor, Ontario/Detroit, MI

We camped in Canada as there weren't any camp grounds close to Detroit. We drove into Detroit and had a great seafood dinner with friends of Toni and George's. We took a quick tour of the local casino and then we drove around ohing and awing over the gorgeous homes. We then called it an early night as we had a drive ahead of us the next day. John knew his way around Detroit pretty well as he had worked here many times for both Ford and Toyota. I can't say that it was my favorite of all places.

Jun 27, 2005 - Next stop: Frankenmuth, Michigan

We left Wally World early Monday morning and travelled westward across northern Ohio to I-75 where we turned north and headed for our next stop at Frankenmuth, Michigan. We have friends there who want us to help convert their empty basement into a shower/bathroom, bedroom/sewing room, family room, and a mechanical room. The outside temperature was absolutely brutal in the high 90's as we crossed the border into Michigan. Sam maintained his cool somewhat by staying, or laying, in the litterbox on the floor in the backseat while Dixie...
