Aug 22, 2017 - Living History-We Speak "Vintage"
This is all about our wonderful experience attending the Port Sanilac Vintage RV/Trailer/Boat Show in this cute little town on the eastern shore of Michigan situated on Lake Huron. It originally was a lumberjack settlement and legend has it that it was named after a Wyandotte Indian Chief named Sanilac. Let’s back up a couple weeks, we were camping with our buddies, Matt and Bryan, at Hidden Ridge RV in Hopkins, MI. They mentioned there was this rally in a couple weeks and would we like to attend? When we heard that some of the vintage...Jump to full entry
Aug 8, 2013 - The mad dash
It seems to be the theme of this trip...waiting for a break in the weather so we can scoot to our next destination. We had to make it back across Saginaw Bay and we absolutely needed good weather for that. We were in good company though. There were a lot of BIG boats who had been in Harrisville for several days waiting for the same opportunity so we didn't feel so whimpy shying away from reports of 2 to 4 foot swells. We met several folks from Ohio. One in particular from Catawba who was just starting a month long cruising vacation. He had...Jump to full entry
May 31, 2011 - Hot and Humid - Finally!
The red storm warning box and worrisome tornadoes bypassed us once again the other evening. The impending danger made some of the campers leave early, but most stuck it out. We had heavy rain and more thunder and lightning, but no heavy wind and the storm moved through quickly. -- Yesterday, as expected, the camping masses left for parts unknown to return to their day jobs and/or school. We are left once again in peace and quiet with probably a total of 12 rigs in the park. What an amazing change that is in just a few short hours. It was...Jump to full entry
May 29, 2011 - Another Red Box Alert!
Today started off with the same overcast and gray skies but by noon, a bit of sunshine was peeking out and I took to my lawn chair to absorb some Vitamin D. They are still saying that it will be hot and humid tomorrow. This afternoon, as we were watching the tellie, a flash came on for tornadoes in Michigan. Say what??? We have switched on the Weather Channel and sure enough, there is a line of red boxes marching from west to east, heading to Detroit and the east coast of Michigan. John checked with some neighbors who are from here to the...Jump to full entry
May 27, 2011 - Frankenmuth
We decided to take today as another exploring opportunity, before the masses move in for the holiday. We had heard about a little town west of here called Frankenmuth. It was at least an hour away but we didn't have anything else going on, so what the heck. The drive was pretty, through the same farm country we have been seeing, although the further west we got, the greener and lusher it got because it is warmer inland. I can't get over the fact that barns are left to just deteriorate and fall apart. Most of these barns also have an old...Jump to full entry
May 25, 2011 - Exploring the Thumb
Before this afternoon's predicted storms, we decided to explore the coastline north of the Park this morning. We headed up to Michigan's "thumb" along Highway 25, stopping along the way to investigate any roads that took us over to the shores of Lake Huron. There weren't many as the entire coast is lined with houses, mostly sitting empty. We stopped to look at another RV park which was filled with rigs left by their owners which we assume will be full this coming weekend. Today, there was no one around. The few glances we did get of the...Jump to full entry
May 24, 2011 - Yay- Back in the U.S. of A.
John was clever enough to figure out that since Monday was a national Canadian holiday, it would be a good day for us to travel and avoid commute traffic and he was right. We left Niagara around 6:30 am. Yes. I really can get up early when I need to. We headed west for the first time in months, taking the QEW which is the name of the Canadian highway. It is an excellent road with no potholes. There were several lanes for traffic and it must be full on a normal work day, but on Monday, it was clear sailing. We picked up the 401 which took us...Jump to full entry
Aug 27, 2009 - One last night on the road
K - Did less than 300 mi today. Glenn really tired of driving. His back calmed down after the first week, which is a great blessing. Went into Port Sanilac for a nice early dinner overlooking the harbor. It’s 7 pm, Glenn has been napping since 5:30. He’ll get up soon and play on the computer a while. I’ll be in bed by 8:30. Home tomorrow, Hurray G - Very new campground with every imaginable facility except their wireless is down! Same story as 50% or more of the campgrounds we've stayed at. "Oh, we've had reports of that, guess we'll have...Jump to full entry
