Jul 13, 2010 - Last Day at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area

Sorry to all the friends and family we were unable to see this week. Never enough time. Today I had lunch with Gale. She is a high school friend that I have kept in touch with since the 25 yr class reunion. Funny how the 1st 25 yrs slipped away with us doing our own thing then 14 yrs ago we connected again. SO it was a great lunch and when we returned about 2pm it was pouring rain. Jim and Mary were at the campsite with Jay for a visit and to see the RV. The stayed for dinner and brought delicious brownies. We had a great time visiting and...

Jul 12, 2010 - Still at Pontiac Lake Rec Area

Storms woke us up in the middle of the night. Shut the windows and vents and went back to sleep. It was supposed to be cloudy and rainy all day, but it really was only humid. Went out to get our marriage license at the county court house, so of course we needed to eat breakfast out (my favorite meal out). We needed the license because we heard that Soaring Eagle Casino gave you 2 times the number of years you have been married if you come in on the actual day, that is $76 EACH. I guess we will be stopping there on the way north. Tonight,...

Jul 11, 2010 - Visit from old friends and dinner at Aunt Ann's

Today started early with a breakfast visit from Martha. I met Martha at my first job after HS with Community National Bank of Pontiac. We were joined a little later by Sharon, our other co-worker. Martha and Sharon lived together and I joined them when I moved away from home for the first time. We have over the years lost contact and renewed contact. Today was one of the renew the contact day. It was fun to remember our single wild days. We talked about staying at Point Pelee - Sleepy Hallow. So many great memories. Jay was off drowning...

Jul 8, 2010 - Pontiac Lake Rec Area

A midst a downpour we reached our camp site. I stood in the pouring rain guiding Jay as he backed into spot 48. Fortunately we have a generator so there was no rush to plug in the RV. But, rhat was late in the afternoon. We started the morning packing up and leaving Proud Lake. We were ready to go - needed to dump and fill the water. So Lucy and Desi were out there looking like the newbies we are. The water didn't go in do smoothly - something about air and having to open the faucets. We finally got it and then headed to the gas station....

Jul 14, 2009 - Taking it easy

We are ready for the boat race; looking forward to seeing old friends. After leaving Indiana, we mosied on up route 12 toward Pontiac, Mi. Dozens of lakes, of varying sizes, continue to cover the beautiful scenery. There is a wholesomeness in the rural farms, fruit and veggie stands, horses, accompanied with neighborhoods and small towns. Brighton Lake State Park was our first stop. The lake is a big draw for the Michigan state park system. We enjoy watching the week-end campers; just trying to cram a little fun into the work life. A state...

Jan 7, 2007 - T-minus 4 days!

We leave on our trip January 11th. Only four days left to pack and get ready! Here's a little background on our trip and itinerary. Our friend Tim is living in Palau for a year as a lawyer. Palau has only been a country since 1994 and was a UN trust of the United States prior to that. It is now in a "compact of free association" with the US. Because Palau is a young nation, many of its laws are based on US law and three American lawyers a year are recruited to live and work in Palau as law clerks. That's how Tim got there. Palau is a chain...

Big Palau Fun

Aug 24, 2006 - Water Tower Trailer Park - sounds inviting, doesn't it?

We next went to Lapeer, Michigan to a little city park called the Water Tower Trailer Park. It was actually quite nice because there are great nature trails all around a wetlands close to the park. We also saw this great building downtown which is the oldest city hall being used in the state. The date says 1845, but it was built in 1839. The whole town in very charming and we will probably return sometime in the future. While there we saw the movie "Prairie Home Companion" at a little movie theatre downtown. The story behind that is while...

Mar 14, 2006 - Team bonding in Ann Arbor

The team met up at Red Hawk tonight, to have a drink, meet the significant others, and get to know each other a little better. After working together intensely for the last week and a half, it was nice to have some time without computers in front of us to just talk and relax. Jess and I also appreciated the ability to order a drink - Gujarat is a "dry" state in India and no alcohol is served. All the guidebooks credit this to Gandhi and his influence.
