Aug 6, 2012 - Pushing on to Petoskey
Some days just don’t start out very well; today was one of those days. Joe had ordered some struts or shocks for the storage bay doors. These are the gadgets that keep the doors open. They delivered them and when Joe opened the box, they were the wrong ones. We called them and they picked them up again. We’ll have to hunt down the correct ones at our next stop. In the meantime, the handle of a brush works well to hold the doors up. We broke camp and that process came to a halt when Joe discovered we had a flat tire. Thankfully, Joe is...

Jul 5, 2012 - Spent the day in Petoskey
We spent the day in Petoskey and it has changed a lot in the past 50 years....my memories of this town was walking the shoreline looking for the famous Petoskey Stones which were a type of fossil and my mother had a great collection of then and loves looking in the water for them....and she also collected drift wood....

Sep 20, 2011 - Travels through Wisconsin
In September, we left our dear friends, Laura & Herb, and traveled from Petoskey to Munising on the upper peninsula of Michigan. They have some wonderful colored sandstone formations ,called Pictured Rocks, along Lake Superior and we took a 2 1/2 hour boat cruise to see them. The colors on the formations are from the minerals which have seeped through the sandstone (Black from manginese, red or orange from iron, green from copper, and white from calcium). The formations are so beautiful and it was really a wonderful cruise. We next drove...

Sep 14, 2011 - Dropping Down into the Lower Peninsula Again
Defying the weather forecast, we decided to set off today and just head down to the LP (Lower Peninsula) and to check out the Petoskey area along with Charlevoix. The forecast showed strong winds, 80% chance of rain and yet, the sky was blue, yes it definitely was windy, but we wanted to see if we could find a bike map of a trail we had read about in that area! AND, there were a lot of other things we were interested in seeing along the way. I will readily tell you that I DID NOT like the Mackinac Bridge crossing with those strong winds...

We used Petoskey as our base and took several day trips. In Charlevoix we visited Castle Farms, originally built in 1918 by the Vice-President of Sears as a model farm to showcase farm equipment sold by Sears at that time. In 2001 the farm was bought by a lady whose husband owns the largest Domino's Pizza franchise in the US. The buildings have been restored and are used for weddings and other events. The day we visited there was a huge arts and crafts show and two weddings. In Indian River we visited the National Shrine of the Cross in the...

Aug 31, 2011 - On the road again
When I looked at this travelogue, I noticed that I had not entered anything since November of last year. I guess that is why all of you had thought that Larry and I had dropped off of the end of the world. Well we are both doing well and are traveling again. We had a wonderful winter in CA and southern AZ. In the spring we were going to hike the lower Antelope Canyon at the Glen Canyon Dam area but I woke up one morning with terrible pains in my left hip and thigh which were caused by the sciatic nerve. We spent 5 weeks in Sedona trying to...

Not much to report on today. It was cloudy and overcast all day, so I took advantage of the not-so-perfect weather to start getting ready for our departure on Monday - I hope! Dan has his follow-up appointment with the cardiologist at the hospital on Monday morning, and if everything checks out OK, which I have no doubt it will, we hope to pull out of here Monday afternoon. Our plan is to head to Pictured Rocks in Munising, MI. It's about a four-hour drive from Petoskey. Our neighbors, Ray & Cindy and Sue & Tawnee, are leaving in the...

Jul 21, 2011 - Petoskey, MI
We didn't stray too far from "home" today because we knew were going to dinner with a group of people from the resort at 6:00 PM and didn't want to rush to get back from somewhere. We finished our second bag of sweet Michigan cherries two days ago and I was having withdrawal symptoms and needed a fix, so we decided to walk to the nearest cherry stand (three miles down the road). There is a beautiful paved path called the Little Traverse Wheelway that stretches from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs (23.25 miles) winding around the Lake Michigan...

Jul 20, 2011 - Petoskey, MI
Another lazy day. It rained this morning, so we decided not to make any day trips. Dan had to get some blood drawn at the hospital lab to make sure he's getting the right dosage of some of his meds, and I did nothing! It was very hot today, like everywhere, and it felt good to just stay inside in the A/C. There was a fish fry at the clubhouse in the afternoon, so we did partake of that. Lots of laughs, storytelling, and just plain ol' fun with some of our new friends! There is an equestrian center next to our campground, and when I was...

We had a bad thunderstorm last night, and it sprinkled on and off most of the day. I took the opportunity to do some laundry and treat myself to a pedicure. Dan piddled around the RV, checking the transmission fluid level and trying to figure out why the warning light is still on after he added a couple quarts. All in all, a laid-back and relaxing day. Nothing interesting today worthy of taking a picture - sorry. :-(

Forgot to mention that when we got back to the resort yesterday after springing Dan from the hospital it was just in time to catch the last of the chili from the chili cook-off at the clubhouse. There were four entries, and by the time we got there they were starting to clean up and there were only two batches of chili left. There were also two pieces of lake trout left that some of the people from the resort had caught early in the morning when they chartered a fishing boat. It was REALLY good! Not much to report for today, though. I did...

Jul 13, 2011 - Petoskey, MI
This is getting quite monotonous showing Petoskey, MI as our location every day. But the good news is that Dan is out of the hospital, and this is a beautiful place to be if we have to be stuck somewhere for a while. So, Dan is back on BART now, after having a TEE-cardioversion (aka shock treatment) in the hospital this afternoon. It worked, and his heart rhythm is back on track, but, of course, no telling how long that will last. The doctors want him to follow up in 7-14 days. So I think we’ve decided we’ll stay in this area (Michigan)...
