Aug 19, 2014 - Michigan

I have posted a few pictures we took on our last day in the Petoskey area, we took a drive to an area called the tunnel of trees, beautiful homes along the lake with huge trees overlapping the road. We stumbled upon a Polish place called Legs Inn, had a delicious lunch of some things I can't pronounce but food was delicious, even had gluten free bun for my sandwich. The only dry back was we ate out by the lake and it was quite cold but they gave us southern's blankets. We reluctantly left Petoskey RV Resort after extending our time from 8...

Sep 30, 2011 - What A Week

We have been on the go non-stop these past weeks. It seems that a month is not enough time for all the appointments and visits before we head down south for the winter. Last week it was doctors, dentists and hair and nail appointments. This week it was more of the same. Our weekends have been highlighted by visiting Ken and Donna. We have had such a great time and will miss them very much this winter. Last weekend we cooked a huge dinner of pork roast, dumplings and sauerkraut. For dessert, I made Holy Smoke, a family favorite. This...

Sep 19, 2011 - The Lion King

The weather forecasters were right. It started to rain sometime in the middle of the night and it did not let up until late this afternoon. Since we couldn't do any outdoor activities, what better time than to go to the movies. We had seen an ad on TV the other day that The Lion King was going to be released in 3D. We have seen the movie several times and even had it on VHS tape, but never in a theater and never in 3D. We checked the movie schedule and decided to go to the 2:30 show. We left here a little early so we could stop at Home...

Sep 18, 2011 - The Apple Orchard and Other Adventures

Thursday was another cool morning but since we had the furnace on all night, it was nice and cozy in our little condo on wheels. After coffee and a leisurely breakfast, Roger left to go to the local hospital for a test that his doctor had ordered. I had just nicely finished cleaning up the kitchen when he pulled into the drive. It seems there was a problem with the insurance and they had failed to authorize the procedure. Now we need to wait and see if they will allow it and we won't find out until Tuesday. I sure hope this gets...

Sep 14, 2011 - New Toys

Monday and Tuesday were rather uneventful. Roger had a routine doctor's appointment Tuesday morning and I stayed home and did laundry. The weather was mostly sunny with temps in the upper-70's. That was just right for sitting outside and enjoying the peacefulness of this park. Haas Lake RV Park caters mostly to seasonal campers in the summer, but in September most of them stay at their homes during the week and just come here for the weekends. We are fortunate that in our immediate area, there are about a half-dozen fulltimers. It is nice...

Sep 11, 2011 - Family Time

We got a late start this morning because we were tired from our after-midnight bedtime last night. The University of Michigan played a night game for the first time in their history. With 114,800 fans at Michigan Stadium, you just knew it was going to be a memorable game. The first three quarters were Notre Dame all the way. It was pretty sad for Michigan and they trailed by 17 at the start of the fourth quarter. Things changed considerably during the fourth and Michigan picked up a couple of touchdowns. Then with less than two minutes...

Sep 10, 2011 - Nice Day

We awoke this morning to some pretty heavy rain showers and my immediate thought was it was going to be another rainy, dreary day. Well, I am happy to say I was very wrong. Around mid-morning the skies began to clear and by afternoon, it was sunny and quite warm. We had originally planned to see a movie today because we thought it would be too wet for outdoor activities. Good thing our plans were written in pencil because after almost a whole week of rain, we were more than ready to enjoy the outdoors. We met the neighbors across the...

Sep 9, 2011 - Rain, Rain and More Rain

It rained yesterday and it rained again today. We are experiencing the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee, the same system that has flooded the East Coast. At least we don't have flooding here, but the gray skies and cool temperatures aren't the best either. Yesterday, Roger and I went to Panera Bread for lunch. I don't think I would ever get tired of eating there - it was awesome, as usual. After lunch, we went to Twelve Oaks Mall. We really didn't need anything there, but it was something to do instead of being cooped up in the rig. We mostly...

Sep 7, 2011 - We're Home!!!

We left Waterways RV Park this morning around 9:00 and 250 miles later, we arrived at Haas Lake RV Park in New Hudson. Unfortunately, we left sunshine and warming temps in Cheboygan. We are experiencing a cool rain here with temps in the 60's, and tomorrow promises to be more of the same. What's up with that? I thought that since we were coming south, it would be warmer. Oh well, that's all right. It is good to be home. We're all set up on Z72, backed up to the lake just like we were in May. We have already seen the swans and the resident...

Jun 2, 2011 - Wednesday and Thursday

Wednesday: We had wicked winds all day and into the late night. Everything that wasn't nailed down went flying all over the place. We spent our entire day cleaning the rig, ironing clothes and cooking. We could hardly go outside without the wind taking us clear to Kansas so we just stayed indoors working. Thursday: What a difference a day makes. Today was just beautiful - nice calm winds, clear skies and bright sun. It was a perfect Michigan day with temps in the low-70's and low humidity to match. Since we spent all day yesterday working,...

May 31, 2011 - Another Hot Day & Shopping

It didn't cool down much last night so we left the windows closed and the air conditioners on. It was already 77 degrees when we came downstairs at 7:00 AM. We sat for a while, drinking our coffee and discussing what we wanted to do for the day. When the coffee was all gone, our thoughts turned to breakfast. We agreed that going to Leo's Coney Island for one of their delicious omelets was a wonderful idea. So, that is exactly what we did. We went to the Leo's in New Hudson where they met us at the door and informed us that they were only...

May 30, 2011 - How High's The Water, Mama?

The main bridge to this park is still flooded which makes it quite difficult for departing campers. They have to take the long way around and parts of that road is flooded as well. I took a walk up to the bridge so I could see for myself what it looks like and I was shocked. On one of the pictures you can see the electrical poles in the water. Normally they are on solid ground. Everyone says they have never seen the lakes this high. I saw some trailers on Lake #2 that are almost in the water. We are still counting our blessings that we're...
