Oct 12, 2012 - Pictured Rocks
We arrived at the Cruise at 4:30pm and picked up our tickets. We boarded at 4:45pm and were underway on our Sunset Cruise a little after 5:00pm. Our first stop was at the Grand Island East Channel Light. It is an old lighthouse that is no longer active. Then we continued out to the beginning of the Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore at Miner's Castle. It looks different from the water than it did earlier from land but impressive nonetheless. Then we started our tour along the amazing lakeshore with its beautiful colors. The colors are...

Oct 12, 2012 - Waterfalls, Cliffs and Dunes
We arrived at 9:30am for our 10:00am cruise only to find that it had been cancelled due to high waves on the lake. We were told that it looked good for the Sunset Cruise at 5:00pm so we changed our reservations. Since it was a sunny day (finally) we decided to do sume sightseeing but went to breakfast first. We went back to the overlook we had visited the day before for some more pictures. Then we headed to Munising Falls and then on to Sandy Point. We drove down to Miner's Castle, which is the only one of the Pictured Rocks formations that...

Oct 11, 2012 - Views Around Lake Superior
We woke up to more snow and a cloudy sky. By noon the sky was clearing so we drove into town. On the way, we stopped at Wagner Falls. By that time it was partly sunny and above forty. We drove on into town and stopped at the Visitor Center where we were given a map of a scenic drive along the Lake Superior Coast. We decided to have lunch first, and while we were eating the clouds rolled in and it began to rain. When we finished the sky was clearing again so we started our drive. By the time we got to the first stop at Sandy Point, the sky...

Aug 24, 2012 - Picture Rocks
Arrived in Munising Thursday afternoon and checked out cruise trips to Picture Rocks. Backtracked to Christmas, Michigan and got a campsite at Bay Furnace in the National Forest. We love having senior passes to National Parks and Forests. Admission is free and camping is half price. We know they have no utility hookups, but the sites are usually very wooded and frequently on or near water. We decided that altho the weather was iffy we had no idea what tomorrow would bring, so we headed back into Munising and booked a 4:00 cruise....

Jul 20, 2012 - Munising, MI
Today we took a 2 1/2 hour boat cruise along pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It is the Lakeshore to the east and Grand Island to the West of Munising Bay, before you hit Lake Superior Grand. At this point being the widest portion of Lake Superior, 160 miles wide. The lake is the largest, deepest, clearest and supposedly the roughest, although not today. The guide gave an example of size, being that if you built a swimming pool 5' deep big enough to hold the lake content, it would be larger than the continental United States. The tour...

Jul 19, 2012 - Munising, MI
Haven't mentioned the weather for a few days. Finally, we are experiencing the weather we expected when we headed north. The humidity and heat have settled down. It has been in the mid to upper 70's during the day and cool sleeping weather at night. We have moved ahead again to Munising, MI. We are staying at The Wandering Wheels Campground. It is a 440 acre site in the woods. Lots of families are tent camping here. They have a heated pool the kids love. We are being lazy and hanging around camp today.

Jul 9, 2012 - Visiting Munising, MI – Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
On Monday, 7/10/2012, we drove to Munising, MI, the home of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The good news for us is that the temperatures are still very moderate at 74 for Monday’s high and 53 for the low. We are sleeping under blankets and we refuse to turn the heater on so this morning the RV’s interior temperature has slipped down to 66 degrees. Perfect! We are staying at City of Munising Tourist Park. This park sits on Lake Superior and last night we watched the sun set flaming into the lake in a burning red glow. We have improved...

Jun 18, 2012 - Gladstone and Munising, MI
Saturday, June 16,2012 – The weather man predicted rain and it did. Not a heavy rain but a constant rain most of the way to Michigan. It stopped before we reached Michigan. The flowers –red, white, yellow, and pink -are so beautiful on the sides of the road. The wildlife was plentiful. We saw two cranes and their chick, many turkey hens (one with a lone chick), a grouse and lots of deer. I have seen many does and fawns in my lifetime but I have never seen a fawn nurse. See the picture we got of the fawn nursing. We ended up at the Hiawatha...

Sep 6, 2011 - Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
When the forecasters advised folks to take in their flowers last night, they got it right – temps were in the low 30s when we got up this morning. However, it was bright and clear and NO wind and temps were to soar to the 70s! It might not have made it that high, but the day was absolutely a glorious one and a perfect day for us to experience the boat cruise out on the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (the second of four national lakeshores to see in the country). Our game plan was to make the 10:00 boat so we’d be back to the RV in...
