Jun 8, 2017 - Camp Turkeyville RV Resort

Yes that is the name of the park, their mascot is a big old tom turkey gobble-gobbling around the park. Well today wasn't as bad as I figured it would be going thru Chicago. Alter about an hour thirty we were out, traffic was very heavy but never really at a stand still but the killer part was the approximately 45USD we paid to take this route, don't tell anyone but we did run one booth(I plead ignorance to knowing what it was) so imagine we will be getting a picture of the back of the rig in the mail wanting payment. Had a most enjoyable 4...

Apr 16, 2017 - Camp Turkeyville, Marshall, Michigan

Today we continued north through Tennessee, then, Kentucky, then Indiana, and finally into Michigan. Our first few hours were on I-65 until Louisville, and then I-69 the rest of the day. Tonight we are in Marshall, Michigan at Camp Turkeyville. They have about 125 sites, with some nice premium pull-through patio sites. We arrived here at about 5 pm on Easter Sunday. There are about a dozen campers here. It’s early season so no one is in the office. Check yourself in and leave your payment in an envelope. It’s windy and cool here tonight, no...

Jul 4, 2015 - Car show and fireworks

In the early AM I went to Sams in Battle Creek and saw the balloon launch from the airshow. There were at least 30 balloons and they came over the Walmart parking lot. We needed some canned soda and I bought one 24 case before realizing we are in Michigan with the onerous 10 cent per can deposit. Ray will be drinking Mountain Dew every day we have left in Michigan so I can turn them in before we move on. Wish I had thought about this earlier as we could have been drinking Michigan soda the past week too. Today we went back to the flea...

2015 Eagle trip

Jul 3, 2015 - Power outage, flea market and Hatfields & McCoys

We started the day with a power outage that lasted until 1:30 PM. Ray had intended to play golf at the course across the road from us but their power was out also, so that plan didn't work out. The campground is hosting a flea market for the 3 day weekend and we checked out the vendors. Earlier in the AM I bought some roma tomatoes and looked at HUGE cabbages from the local farms, just wasn't sure I wanted that much cabbage. We found some bargains - Ray got some off brand clogs for $3 and a vornado heater for $10, I found a Better Homes and...

2015 Eagle trip

Jul 2, 2015 - Lansing

We first drove to Charlotte to see the Spartan chassis plant - saw the spots for RV's who are taking the training course. They are on concrete with electric hookup only and not very spacious but adequate. We then drove into Charlotte which is a cute town and Ray got a haircut at a barbershop that's been in business many years. We then drove to Lansing and took the tour of the state Capitol building. It was built in 1879 and has lots of wood and metal painted to resemble marble, also the walls are ornately painted. The Capitol came in at...

2015 Eagle trip

Jul 2, 2015 - Camp Turkeyville

We arrived yesterday after a very short drive, there are mosquitoes at night as our site has lots of grass. It is long however and we were able to pull thru before we had to unhook. There is an airshow in Battle Creek this weekend and we had aerobatic planes flying over us for a couple of hours. Reminds us of Leeward. There is a golf course just across from us, very convenient . It is cool this morning, in the 50's and will be a day for long pants no doubt.

2015 Eagle trip

Sep 24, 2014 - Day 32

90 miles today. Not too fast as my team seems to be ailing. Lori could not keep up and insisted we leave her. Archie was tired so Jim, retired West Point army colonel, and I pulled the 40 miles after lunch. Hope everyone is better tomorrow - 120 miles. Riders seem to be getting worn down - I am fine. Dinner at Dark Horse Brewery - which is featured in a reality show on the History channel. Good beer and pizza.

jakes bike ride

Aug 3, 2014 - Turkeyville

We were bumped from the badger! I received an email at 3 PM on Saturday and there was a call on the cell phone that I wasn't carrying at 3 PM also, they had a computer error and were overbooked and would not be able to take us. I made phone calls, no answer. The next morning I finally got through about 8 AM to talk to the Michigan office, they said we could go that night or the next day. Too late, we have to get on the New York so we are going to have to drive through Chicago again. As we went through Milwaukee I remembered why the Badger...

2014 Eagle trip

Jul 19, 2013 - Firekeepers And Marshall

Joanne, Colette, Sandy, and I decided to try a new casino hotel for our annual "girls overnight" trip. We normally go to Soaring Eagle but this year we wanted to try Firekeepers in the Marshall/ Battle Creek area. Colette broke even which means she was a winner. The rest of us were not so lucky. No one ever expects to win so losing a few bucks never puts a damper on our good time together. We checked out of the hotel by 10:30 and went on to explore the historic town of Marshall. We parked and walked up and down the main street browsing in...

Sep 10, 2012 - Michigan and GrandKids

We are now in Michigan, after driving through Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our drive was around Lake Superior and we camped one night on the Lake. It is lovely country. The leaves are beginning to show signs of fall colors up in Northern parts of the states North but it is still green in the middle of Michigan. We crossed the Mackinaw Bridge and an eagle flew right passed our truck. I didn't know we would see eagles but so far we have seen two bald eagles and some deer. We are staying at Camp Turkeyville in Marshall, Michigan. Spending all our...

Lowe's Alaska Trip

May 4, 2010 - Marshall, MI

Our RV caravan headed out this morning for a 90 mile drive to Marshall, WI. We’ll stay here for just one night on our way to Holland. We left around 9:30 am and had an uneventful drive. The new RV [ark is also on a lake (I’m seeing a theme of lakes here in Michigan!) and is very beautiful. We’re all parked in a grassy area and it’s nice to see grass instead of mud, as it’s been raining heavily each night. We all carpooled to downtown Marshall to visit the American Museum of Magic and the Post Office Museum. Both were extremely fascinating....
