Aug 28, 2018 - Ludington sp

We made it to Lake Michigan! We tried to get up with my niece but she was on her way back from camping in another direction so we came on through Lansing and headed to Ludington. We found a site among the many campers and are waiting for a major thunder storm to come through here tonight.

Jul 18, 2017 - Ludington

Stopped by Holland, MI, which lives up to it's name. It is a pretty town with lots of Dutch history. The downtown streets in the historic district has thermal heated streets and sidewalks to melt the snow in the winter. Arrived in Ludington in time for dinner with my cousin and her husband. Happy to stay in one place for 3 nights.

Jul 14, 2015 - Fresh fish and ice cream

This was one of those days to discover hidden gems. First Ray swept off the slides as we had a very heavy rain last night along with wind, quite a system went through. It was overcast all day so we stayed in the Eagle most of the time. However I wanted some fresh fish before leave Lake Michigan so we drove to Bortells Fisheries which is south of Ludington along Bass Lake. We first missed the turn and drove around the lake which was interesting as the road took us through summer campgrounds and houses, through trees with lake views, very...

2015 Eagle trip

Jul 13, 2015 - Ludington

We arrived in Ludington yesterday after a pleasant drive down Hwy 31. The RV park has very long concrete pads, nice and level. It rained early and we waited for the skies to clear then drove to the downtown area to check out the ferry - very quiet in the middle of the day. There is a large ship docked there - is an old ferry that is no longer usable and they use it for parts for the Badger which is the only coal fired ferry still operating in the US. It was first launched in 1953 and was first part of the railroad transit of cars across...

2015 Eagle trip

Jul 5, 2015 - Holland to Ludington

Currently we are staying in Pentwater, Michigan at Kibby Creek RV Park. The last blog post had our departure from Wisconsin and our destination was Kalamazoo, MI. I should have taken time during that week in Kalamazoo to update this blog but just didn’t have time to do so. Besides seeing some lighthouses we also had a couple of great visits with my childhood friend Michele Buelow. A brief recap is that we went to school together on Grosse Ile, MI from kindergarten until 6th grade when my parents and I moved to San Diego in 1958. Over the...

Jul 23, 2012 - On the SS Badger to Ludington, MI

Today was a bit of an off day for us. We rode 4 miles down to the ferry in the morning and 3 miles to the motel in Ludington after the crossing. The SS Badger is an old ferry (from the 50's) but still in good condition. The crossing takes four hours. There are movies, arcades, two food areas and BINGO on the trip. Just like the Caribbean.

Sep 8, 2011 - Ludington, Michigan

Today started out a bit shaky. It was rainy and cool when we left Niagara Falls. We then got lost twice in Canada and had to find our way back. Then we had some problems using our credit card when we stopped for gas in Michigan. After that, however, the rest of the day went very smoothly, the sun came out and we finally made it to our hotel an hour later than originally planned, but we got there anyway. Tomorrow, bright and early, we go to the Ferry that is going to take us across Lake Michigan and then only have a few hours of car travel...

Jun 25, 2008 - Ludington, MI to Manitowac

We were on the road at 6:35 AM to board the SS Badger, a carferry that crosses Lake Michigan. The temp has really cooled off (mid 50s) & it is quite overcast. The weather report is a little worrysome as there is a wicked storm front heading our way, looks like we will meet it as we cross the Lake! We know the Badger is able to handle bad weather - just not sure if we are! When we made our reservations they suggested we be there 1 hour early, we were a little more than that, as the trip from the campground to the ferry dock only took about...

Oct 25, 2006 - Ludington,

After visiting Judith we had made our way along the shores of Lake Erie into Michigan. We stopped on the way and said hello to Larry and Marelene near Detroit and the headed to Luddington on Lake Michigan. Ludington is on the east shore of Lake Michigan and is a holiday destination in the summer. There is a lovely walk round the harbour and also a walk through sand dunes to Big Sable Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse is 112 feet high and has crisp black and white striped tower and is one of the tallest on Lake Michigan.

Jul 26, 2004 - Going to Gumi!!!

Wow . . . I can't believe I am actually going to do this! Am I crazy? (don't answer that one.) So, I am getting everything ready for my departure in less than two weeks. I never realized how much of a pack-rat I am. I have so much useless crap! So, I am selling practically everything I own and planning to only take two suitcases. Unfortunately, I am my mother's daughter so it will probably be at least three or four, but I'm doing my best. I just have way too damn many cute shoes! Coco and I are both updating our vaccinations this week....
