Jul 13, 2017 - Engine compartment door

We stayed at the Eagle yesterday and Ray checked it out - found the engine compartment door on the back has come unglued so with vibrating might fall off or become cracked, we need to get it fixed. Of course we found this out later in the afternoon and so most places were closed. The marina people are just great. They have a fiberglass man who comes in as needed, came in today, looked at the door and knew what glue would work - we hope. Anyway after multiple calls to a mobile repairman who never showed up we are very fortunate that the...

Jul 11, 2017 - Antiques and the castle

Today we went into Bay City to see the antiques mall they are famous for. The downtown area has many historic buildings and several antique places, we walked through the first one and had enough. There is road construction all over this part of Michigan so when you get into towns or are even on the interstate you are rerouted and the GPS doesn't like that. We then drove to Saginaw and finally found the visitors bureau, very helpful. At that point we didn't have time to do much except went to the historical museum, the castle. It's an...

Jul 10, 2017 - Cheese and sporting goods

We went local today, first I went to the grocery store and Weiss farm stand for Michigan cherries. We checked out Pinconning cheese that is supposed to be the best Michigan cheese. We missed the Williams outlet (went there later) and instead went to Wilson's that has been in business 100 years. Then we visited Franks Great outdoors that was similar to a small Gander Mountain. In Pinconning we went to Northwoods Wholesale Outlet that is huge and reminded me of the original Bass Store in Springfield MO. It was a place with many sections,...

Jul 9, 2017 - Frankenmuth

We went to Frankenmuth that was established by Bavarian immigrants and it retains the German influence. All the buildings that line the streets are German architecture and there is the world famous Zehnders restaurant that features chicken dinners and has an extensive gift shop area too. The building started as the Exchange Hotel in 1856 and has at least 4 different dining rooms, many of the wait staff were in German dress. The Bavarian Lodge is also famous and features a glockenspiel that goes off every 3 hours, we missed each of those...

Jul 8, 2017 - Linwood Beach Marina

We had a smooth drive up to Michigan, there is major construction on I75 right where we turned off to get to Linwood Beach Marina so will have to check that out for the drive out We are at the municipal marina and it's really jam packed with boats both in the water and on shore. This is the weekend so it's really busy, as we drove in there was a boat trailer with a flat tire that blocked our path to the campground they immediately brought out a lift and were able to move it so we could be led by a golf cart to our spot. There are many...
