Apr 25, 2018 - Wednesday Lawton MI

Our stay here in Lawton is always a nice time to spend with my sister. Candy and Jo enjoy each other’s company, they can sit for hours and take. A highlight we had here is to see the two mile section of M-40 dedicated to Uncle Bud. Now went you drive along the stretch of road he will be looking down on you. Candy and Jo drove over to Allegan to the Perrigo drug outlet store so pick up some items. The must have went other places because they were gone all afternoon. It is nice to be here at the Waitas Estate because our satellite will pick...

2018 Winter

Apr 24, 2018 - Tuesday Lawton MI

Big travel day again today, we decided to drive to Lawton MI and visit my sister. It is another over 300 mile trip but we got an early start. Wasn’t a bad drive until we got around Chicago, what a mess. I haven’t driven this way in over 20 years and now I remember why, good area to avoid. We took I-94 from Indiana to exit 60 at Lawton, Michigan wins, they have the worse roads we have driven on for the last four months. After the time change we got to my sister’s around 5 pm and now ready to take is easy for the next few days.

2018 Winter

Oct 26, 2015 - Monday Lawton MI

The girls went somewhere, I don’t know where, and I worked in the barn trying to figure out what needs to stay and what needs to go. It was decided that when we return in the spring from our winter western trip we will come here for a couple of weeks and work on selling some of the big items in the barn. Bud did build some beautiful trailer that we will put out front and sell. Got to find someone interested in Cub Cadets tractors and parts which will free up lots of room in the barn. That was about it for us, girls watched Dancing with the...

2015 Family Cruise

Oct 25, 2015 - Sunday Lawton MI

Today Dan, Carolyn and kids will be driving up so Dan can pick up some guns from Joan so he can sell them. The girls went to church and I just messed around. The Wells family showed up around noon so we got started getting the guns ready for transport. Some of Joan’s grandkids came over and purchased some of the long guns so that made less for Dan to take home. After all that we had one of Carolyn’s favorite dinners, meatloaf. After dinner the Wells family headed for home and we just laid around the rest of the evening. Not much going on...

2015 Family Cruise

Oct 24, 2015 - Saturday Lawton MI

What a great night for sleeping. I tried out our sofa hide-a-bed for the first time, it does sleep very well with that air mattress. It is a good thing because I have a set of steps to finish today. Joan had to work at Hospice store this morning so after her and Candy sat in the little room looking out, she went to the Hospice store that she volunteers every month for a few hours. She got back around 1:30 and I had the steps done, just a matter of cleaning up. Timing was great because just as I finish cleaning up, it started to pour rain....

2015 Family Cruise

Oct 23, 2015 - Friday Lawton MI

It was a little chilly this morning but no snow thank goodness. My project today will be to replace the deck boards on Joan’s back steps. She had some other people give her a quote to replace the boards and it was $400 to $800. The $800 must have been to build her a deck, all she wanted was to replace the boards. Well since I am here why not. Figured out what I needed, went to the hardware and got it. Total cost was $75.00 for the material. The hardest part was getting the old boards off, screws would not come out. I sure was nice to have...

2015 Family Cruise

Oct 22, 2015 - Thursday Lawton MI

As we leave the KOA in Bluffton Indiana it is another fine day. Just a few sprinkles with overcast skies. As we drive on the by-ways of Indiana the color change of fall is on its way. That is the best part of living in this part of the country, the four seasons that we get to view. Everyone knows if we are in northern Indiana we must stop a Candy’s favorite store in Shipshewana, E & S Bulk Store. She always gets some very good prices on her favorite spices and other items. Got a shot of the Amish coming to this store, sure does beat gas...

2015 Family Cruise

Sep 13, 2015 - Sunday Lawton MI

It did get a little chilly last night, it was down to 39 degrees when we rose for the day, had the furnace on. Girls when to church this morning and I was finishing some spots of the yard that were not done yesterday. Got the hose line run so they can pump up the mower tire if needed where it is parked. Got the barn blown out and also the mower cleaned up. Had a bunch of papers in the barn that needed to be burnt up so I got to be a fire bug today. At the entrance to the driveway there were some overhanging limps that kept rubbing on the...

Today is Candy’s birthday, she officially is Medicare age now. The day it appears will be good, a little cool but the sky is clear with the sun out so we can have a great pig roast. The pig roast will start at 1:00 pm so the Chicago clan came to the house this morning for some family time. I needed to find out why the air compressor in the barn wasn’t working, got that fixed and now it just waiting time to go down to the park. Carolyn called and she is on her way to be here. Stephanie and Tammy couldn’t make it because of work but they are...

Woke up this morning to rain. It wasn’t raining very hard but just enough to make it wet outside. I needed to get the grass cut but had to wait for it to stop and dry out a little. In the mean time needed to replace a GFI and fix the sink in Bud’s bathroom. Saw what parts I needed so off to the local hardware I went, the girls had to make a Costco run to Kalamazoo. As I was going out of the motorhome 12 turkeys were walking across the drive way, they looked about eating size so lucky I didn’t have a gun or we could have had turkey for...

Aug 22, 2015 - Saturday Lawton MI

The drive to Lawton was uneventful other than 3 deer running across US-131. Got into Lawton around 3 pm and this is the warmest we have been in over a week. While we were gone there was a bad storm that caused the power to be lost for a couple of days. Power came back on but all of Joan’s meat she had in a freezer in the garage spoiled because the garage outlet were off. The storm knocked out the GFI. I done some troubleshooting and found the problem with the GFI, bought a new one and now she is back in business. Too bad she lost all of her...

Here we are another day at the Waitas Estate preparing for our departure on Monday for our journey north. As we are getting around with an overcast sky but very comfortable for August. The girls are getting ready for church and it is time for me to do my Forrest Gump impression, cutting grass. As they leave I get the zero turn mower out to start the task of cutting the grass. Thank goodness for the mower, it does a pretty fast job on the grass. Need to get it done now because we will be gone for a couple weeks and it will be like a hay...
