Jun 25, 2019 - Setting up this Journal site

I have gone to this site to see if I might be able to use it for journaling during this trip. I will pick up my new I-pad at Capital MacIntosh tomorrow and then must connect the off brand keyboard which is to communicate via Bluetooth. This is an adventure abroad and into IT. I am still looking at the pile of clothes that needs to be sorted down to fit into one carryon bag for this seven week trip. In the middle of housecleaning and have the yard and gardens pretty well ready to leave despite rain nearly every day.

Summer Sojourn 2019

May 21, 2014 - Lansing

Today we took in the Capitol and it was a beautiful day. Just look at the picture of the Capitol. We had another tour with 3rd graders, but this time they were well behaved and very quiet. We saw the House and Senate chambers, the governor's office, and the rotunda with it's beautiful ceiling. The Historical Center was just a couple of blocks down the road so we took that in also. Lots of Michigan history. All of these museums and such have worn us out! A few days to recover and we should be good to go.

Alaska Trip

Sep 3, 2013 - Lansing, MI

Today we made an uneventful trip of 240 miles to Lansing, Michigan. Lansing is the state capital and home to Michigan State University, but it is still a small city with farms right outside town. The Upper Peninsula is very rural and there is much wilderness, but in the 'Lower Peninsula' we traveled 100-plus miles and found it very similar. We were over halfway into our trip for the day before we saw any significant change in the scenery, and what we started seeing were large farms of corn and soybeans.

Jun 15, 2013 - On the Road Again

We took a little detour before we got started to Cape Cod. We have made so many wonderful friends during our winters in Florida that we decided to take the opportunity to make a little detour and visit with a few of these friends. We are with them every day in Florida so we really miss not being able to see them until next winter. This visit will give us a good chance to shorten the time we are missing them. We left on June 15 and headed to Michigan. The first day was a long one, we drove 548 miles and arrived and Deb and Denny’s about 7 in...

Oct 3, 2012 - Going to Michigan

Beginning Mileage 32301 Ending Mileage 32448 Lansing Cottonwood Campground 5339 Aurelius Rd. Lansing, MI 48911 517-393-3200 8/9.5/8.5 We woke up at the Comfort Inn and had breakfast. The rig was not ready and they had found nothing wrong with the RV back up lights so we headed to Elkhart and sure enough it was a truck issue. Got that fixed and headed back to Redwood. Had lunch in Syracuse and were on the road around 3:00pm. The campground is nice with a fishing pond and while it is near the railroad tracks, never heard a train. We will be...

New England Trip

Aug 26, 2011 - Day Trip

Karen and I went on a road trip today. We left early to make sure we were in Chelsea for the 9:30 tour of the Jiffy Company. The traffic was much lighter than we expected and we arrived in Chelsea at 8:30 - enough time to stop at Zou Zou Cafe for coffee and a breakfast roll. Our Jiffy tour began with a mini blueberry muffin and a cup of coffee or a bottle of water. We saw a very informative movie - showed us places in the factory that we were not allowed to visit on our tour such as the receiving department( wheat from Michigan farms) and...

Jul 22, 2010 - This one's a bit longwinded, sorry.

Hi People Well, James did indeed do a temporary fix on my sunnies - he put some red tape on them and they held very well until we went shopping and the arm was hanging through the trolley and got lost, so we ended up going into the Sunglass Hut and buying another pair - not the pair I intended to get though. These ones are mirrored - yes Gabby Seo, just like yours. My ones are not Ray Bans though, but Maui Jims, whoever he is when he's at home!!! Not sure that I want to keep them, but I have 90 days to decide. So, we stayed in Canada that...

Sep 26, 2009 - Lansing-Michigan: petit bled

Aug 31, 2009 - Michigan

Monday, August 10 thru Sunday, August 30, 2009 We arrived at the St. Clair Thousand Trails just south of Port Huron, MI and got set up Monday with no problems. Called Aunt Nancy and made plans to visit the next day. Over the next 2 weeks we got together with Nancy, Kevin & Pam several times at their home in New Haven. Pam & Nancy kept our tummies well fed, and we spent many happy hours playing Farkle and Skip-Bo. The first Saturday, we had a cookout and invited Nancy, Kevin & Pam to see our RV and dine al fresco with us and the mosquitoes....

May 12, 2009 - Lansing, MI - The Ford Presidential Museum, Grand Rapids

(Ron Writing) We toured the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids, MI. Note that I didn’t say Presidential Library but just Museum. The Ford Museum and Library are unique among the Presidential library/museums in that they are not co-located. The library is in Ann Arbor, MI, 130 miles from the museum. The Ford presidency was quite unique also. He never ran as a candidate for vice president – he was appointed vice president after Agnew got in trouble. Then he became president without running when Nixon resigned. When he did run...
