Jul 20, 2013 - The Big Race

July 20, 2013 Burtchville, MI Zero miles driven Today was the start of the annual Port Huron – Mackinaw Island sailboat race. Lamberti’s celebrate this event with a family and friend party at their home. The day started with a little wind and waves to make the race most exciting at the start. Several large lake freighters raced to the south and north to beat the closure of the St Clair River for the start of the sailboat race. There were 240 sailboats in 17 classes registered for the race. Two courses exist with the largest and fastest...

Jul 19, 2013 - Getting Ready for the Race

July 19, 2013 Burtchville, MI No Miles Driven Pat took us on a tour of the sailboats in the Port Huron harbor. They were all tied up, many abreast of one another and preparations for the race were underway with the cleaning of decks, hulls and sails. It was a rather colorful sight. We tried to obtain a commemorative race decal but all the remaining ones had been sent ahead by truck to Mackinaw Island. We toured downtown Port Huron and the many shops and pubs that were preparing for the race. We spent a good part of the afternoon watching...

Jul 18, 2013 - By the Lake

July 18, 2013 Burtchville, MI No Miles Driven Paul and Eileen were coming to dinner in the evening so many of the activities were directed to preparation. Pam2 planned a pineapple angel food cake for desert. As they left the house to shop for groceries with the cake cooling upside down they admonished us to call if the cake fell. The vibrations of Pam’s voice did the job and the cake plopped out of the upside down pan on to the kitchen counter. It was soon determined that angel food cake was out of the question and a strawberry truffle...

Jul 17, 2013 - In the Thumb

July 17, 2013 Burtchville, MI – Ubly – Burtchville, MI 25 Miles The morning started with coffee on the porch and then I took a trip to Port Huron for errands. Medication refills were easily obtained at Walgreens proving the reliability of their national database system for prescriptions, a trip to the grocery store to retrieve the foods we need for tomorrow’s dinner party and then the funny event of the day. I stopped at a local car wash to remove all the grime from the Jeep after pulling it several hundred miles behind the motorhome and...

Jul 16, 2013 - Shopping & Golf

July 16, 2013 Burtchville, MI No Miles Driven Pam Squared left the Lamberti compound and headed to the nearby town of Lexington further north along the coast of Lake Huron. They teased all the shop owners with the thought of their purchases! They settled for pearl/diamond bracelets to give each other. Then they stopped for lunch and finally returned home looking at all the beautiful homes in the area. Meanwhile Pat and Ernie drove to Golden Hawk Golf Club close to Selfridge AFB and teamed up with Paul Horbal and three other friends for a...

Jul 15, 2013 - Port Huron Area

July 15, 2013 Utica - Burtchville, MI 55 miles We left Paul and Eileen’s at a reasonably early hour so that they could recoup from all their hard hosting work. I’m certain they were glad to see the back end of the Jeep heading for Mound Rd. After a short stop for fuel in Utica we went through the countryside to I-94. The country was very green there and the corn was beginning to tassel. We remembered the many admonitions and did not cross the bridge into Canada as we had forgotten our passports and left them in the motor home in Nappanee....

Sorry for the delay but we found being as close to Canada as we were Verizon said we were roaming so I waited until we got in Wed. eve to send our update. We are very excited about this leg of our journey. We spent the afternoon in Port Huron MI. and it was a beautiful day with temps in the high 80’s. Ate lunch along the St. Clair River which is at the low end of Lake...
