Sep 10, 2013 - Jackson, MI

Tue, 10 Sep: A non-rainy road day... The forecasts for today were for rain, rain, and more rain. We awoke to a hazy sunrise without a rain cloud in sight. Breakfast and then getting ready for the road were next. We were pretty well shoehorned into our space at Robert's Landing but Bob did a masterful job of getting Carpe out and to the campground's dump site. It was ten days since we'd last dumped our holding tanks so it was probably time. We hooked up the car, finished the checklist, and rolled wheels about 0915. We had a choice; head...

May 12, 2013 - Vacation: Week 1

SUNDAY: This was a busy day. First it was up the hill to church. It was kinda nice not to be in charge of fellowship. I served during the whole month of February and April so now someone else gets a turn. We then came home a finished packing. About 3 Kaye picked us up and took us to the motel near the airport. We stopped for Chinese and gas on the way. We checked in and arranged for a 3 AM wake-up call and a 4 o'clock shuttle to the airport. We tried to watch a bit of TV but soon hit the hay for our short night ahead. MONDAY: I woke up...

Winter 2012 - 2013

Aug 5, 2012 - Knees, trees and Relay for Life

SUNDAY: We played lazy and didn't go to church with Sara. Mostly sat around and watched the Olympics. It is hot out and we are enjoying the AC at the house. By the time we get home we open the windows and turn on the fans and it is ok sleeping. MONDAY: Sara is off today. They have arranged their days off so that someone is here except for Wednesdays and Thursdays. They have several friends that can come in to let the dogs out on those days. TUESDAY: Today we traveled to Brighton to see the ortho Dr. My knee has been getting worse and...

Jul 29, 2012 - A week of puppies

SUNDAY: It was the day we had driven 2 days for - - and I was sick. Don't know if it was something I ate – don't think so – or a flu bug but I certainly had some “tummy troubles”. We had left elder daughter's house a day early so we could get here to hear younger daughter sing at church. After some tea and toast, a long hot shower at daughter's house we got ready for church. She was very happy to see us – so I know she would have been disappointed if I hadn't showed. Her song was beautiful, and the young lady doing liturgical ballet with...

Jul 21, 2012 - Made it to Michigan

We were up early after a good night's sleep at Wally world. Since we were boondocking it only took minutes to make the bed, get dressed and have breakfast so we were on the road early. We had told our daughter we would be there about 3 and ended up getting there at noon. Most of the road was divided highway as we took US 24 east to Ft. Wayne. There we picked up I-69 and headed north. From the IN/MI border the road was all familiar as we have traveled it many times before. It was nice to see new buildings along our route and remark that...

Summer 2012 Travels

Sep 2, 2011 - South to Jackson, Michigan

Today was a long travel day as we truly turned south onto I-75. There is little to report of the day other than, as you would expect, traffic was very heavy as folks got an early start to the last long holiday weekend of the summer. We had spent a couple months in Michigan in 2005. One of the main things we remembered from that trip was how bad the roads were. Not so today. I-75 was in excellent condition as was US Route 127 which we picked up just south of Grayling. Perhaps the most exciting part of the drive was crossing the Mackinac...

Scratchin' the Itch

Sep 16, 2010 - "La Goshen Grippe"

What a week. When I wrote the blog on Sunday – I was up during the night with cramps and general aches in my arms and legs. Around 6 my stomach started feeling ishy – I thought it was because I had been up most of the night – so decided to go back to bed and sleep – WRONG!! Upset feeling got worse. . . . and - well, you know the rest – say hello to the porcelain facility – or in our case – plastic facility. Long story short – the staff at Escapade has been hit by “La Goshen Grippe” - a very strong, quick acting stomach flu. I am just now...

Sep 11, 2010 - Escapade Starts

It is 2 am Saturday night and I am up with some wicked leg cramps from being on my feet all day and probably not drinking enough water. So --- while the heating pad does its thing to help the cramps, I’ll update this and get it up on time. Friday and Saturday we worked the market. As the vendors came in, Jo Peters check them in and gave them their packet and sent them on down the road to the Indoor market area. There we (Ron and I) showed them to their booth and acted as Security at the door. We also answered questions and helped in any way...

Sep 5, 2010 - Plans Change - **REVISED**

All summer we have been trying to help our son-in-law tear down a old barn on their property. Well, not really a barn – but more like a barn shaped shed that is slowly sinking into the dirt, as there is no foundation. It has been used as storage and as a horse barn and chicken house so is full of “stuff” and a lot of old horse and chicken manure. It will make a great garden plot once it is taken down. First, Ron broke his wrist, then SIL had to work, then it rained, then SIL had to work, now it is a holiday weekend and they are planning a...

Summer 2010 Travels

Jul 18, 2010 - A great weekend

We have had a great, relaxing weekend here before we start our volunteer time. We at the Elks. It is hot and a good 30 amp hookup is worth a bit of travel to and from our daughter's place. We are also close to shopping, etc. here in Jackson. So everything is working out well. We have even made reservations for over Labor Day to be her. Anything under $20 and without trees is a plus here. If we would stay a month it is only $360. Not bad for east of the river. We had a great dinner on Thursday night at a place called the Hunt Club. They...

Jul 15, 2010 - Meeting Indiana (No, not the state)

We traveled a whole hour on Tuesday to Emerald Trails Campground in Crete, IL. We ignored the GPS and Streets & Trips who wanted us to take the interstate – we didn’t even take the red roads – we took the little blue roads and traveled thru farmland south of I-80. Nice quiet little roads with little traffic. It was very nice. Emerald Trails is a campground that we will probably avoid next time – mostly because of their attitude. It is most definitely set up for locals who leave their RVs here all the time. But the attitude toward travelers...

Summer 2010 Travels

Jul 20, 2008 - Jackson, Michigan

We spent the last week in Jackson Michigan, along with 37 other RV couples, eating, sightseeing, sitting around campfires and trying to stay dry. Our Michigan Kountry Klub members were fantastic hosts and know how to throw a fun rally. We really like Michigan, it is a beautiful state with a lot to see and do. We spent some time at a friends home on Grass Lake, just outside of Jackson. The lake is owned by the homeowners and there is no public access. which makes it a pristine place to live. At least in the summer! We are now moving up to...
