Sep 13, 2016 - Amish Country and Meeting Up

Greetings from Ionia, Michigan. We visited our friends, Bryan and Matt, here after a short trip to Shipshewana, Indiana. We had visited Shipshewana in the past but were able to stay right in town this time. A “must do” was the Shipshewana Flea Market, the largest one in the Midwest. It is a combination of antiques, Amish furniture, crafts and new items. The main road was packed all day with people driving from miles away to attend the market and stock up on the meats and cheeses the Amish are so well known for. Dennis and I had heard it...

Aug 22, 2014 - President Ford, the last Library

Grand Rapids Michigan is home of President Ford's library, the last Presidential Library on our bucket list. We have visited all thirteen from Herbert Hoover to George W. Bush. In a few years there will be another one either in Chicago or Hawaii - can we get the RV to Maui? We found the Ford library to be one of the better ones that we have visited; very well kept and informative, especially when you consider that he was in office less then three years. We are staying at a very nice park, probably the nicest one so far. We met a very nice...

Aug 26, 2013 - Family Get Together Fun

Our last week in Ionia has been busy and fun. On Tuesday Diane, one of Dave's sisters, came to spend the day with us and we had a great visit. We had dinner in downtown Ionia enjoying all the pretty flowers and the unique architecture which has been preserved from the late 1800s. I spotted a nice looking hair salon and popped in to make an appointment for a hair cut which I got on Friday morning and the stylist did a great job! On Wednesday a long time friend, Jo, that I met at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico at a conference in 1986 came for a...

Aug 17, 2013 - Ionia Grand River Bike Trail

We're still enjoying our time in Ionia, MI and visiting with Gary (Dave's brother) and his wife Vicki as often as we and they can. Dave has helped Gary with a couple of projects at their lake house but we've taken time to have some fun too. (Not that tearing down walls is not fun!) We've been to the lake house and they've been to the trailer. We met them for lunch on Wed. and last night (Friday) we met them at one of our favorite places to eat in Ionia, "Olivera's", good Italian food and service! Friday afternoon we met at the parking lot...

Aug 14, 2013 - Open Range "Coming Home Rally"

Our week in Shipshewana sailed by way too fast! The Rally was great! We've already signed up to attend again next year, as did almost everyone there this year! We had 51 Open Range rigs for this first rally and they've reserved 100 sites for next year! We met a lot of really nice people from all over the country. The farthest distance owners were from Idaho and Arizona. We also had owners from New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ohio, Illinois, Louisiana, Kansas and Missouri and two fulltime...
