We visited the Glen Haven Historic District today on Sleeping Bear Bay. Historic Glen Haven Michigan was established in 1857. The National Park Service is restoring many of the historic structures in the Historic District including the Blacksmith shop, the Sleeping Bear Inn, and DH Day General Store. Also included in the district is the Glen Haven Cannery that houses the Great Lakes Boat Museum. The Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail crosses through the Glen Haven Historic District. Sep 20, 2011 - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore; One More to Go

Today was the ONLY day in the week’s forecast that showed sunshine and nice weather. We set the alarm for an early morning departure and had everything ready to go right after breakfast. However, this all got revamped when we pulled up the shades and could barely see our neighbor! We couldn’t believe it – heavy fog surrounded us! Again, according to the forecast (that totally missed this), it should start burning off later in the morning. "Long ago, in a land that is now Wisconsin, a mother bear and her two cubs were driven into Lake Michigan by a raging forest fire. They swam and swam, but the cubs tired and lagged far behind. Mother bear finally reached the opposite shore and climbed to the top of a bluff to watch and wait for her offspring. But the cubs drowned. Jun 13, 2009 - Sleeping Bear Dunes

Crystal Mountain Resort is located at Thompsonville about 25 miles inland from Lake Michigan. This area is referred to as southern Northwest Michigan. The area is primarily farm land with rolling hills and wonderful forests. Really pretty. I have never been to Michigan and have found it to be really pretty. At least the northwest. A must see is Seeping Bear Dunes, Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive in the park, and the small town of Glen Haven. These sites are all along Lake Michigan about 30 miles north west from the resort.
