Jul 16, 2018 - Day 48 - Durand MI

Since we don't plan on going too far today and Wendy being under the weather with a persistent cough, we take our time getting things ready. I run out for a few supplies and we get on the road right at checkout time - 1100. The plan is to head northeast and stop short of Flint and cross into Canada tomorrow. I did not realize how close to the Michigan border we were. We cross into Michigan 5 minutes after leaving the park. Waze takes us on the back roads for the first hour and a half. It's a very pretty drive through lots of farmland and...

Summer 2018 Big Trip

Jun 27, 2012 - Dryden, Metamora and Detroit Michigan

We have had a delightful time in Dryden, MI visiting our friends and Brooksville neighbors Henryka and Bruno Kepczynski. Their home is in the country sitting among a forest of trees, evergreens and flowers. Hummingbirds, deer, squirrels and singing birds make it a paradise for us city folks. Dryden is really a village with only four or five stores surrounding an intersection. We are not staying in Dryden but at Metamora-Hadley State Park in Metamora, MI. Metamora is a slightly larger collection of stores and gas stations. Lapeer, at only 8...

Jun 23, 2012 - Visit University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan

Finally I understand the difference between Michigan State and the University of Michigan. Same problem people have between Florida and Florida State. Which school is which and which school is located where. Yesterday's journal entry described Michigan State. Today we'll describe our visit to University of Michigan. Our first impression of U of M is that it is big, bigger, large and larger. It is a huge university. It is known as a research University and was founded in 1817 about 20 years before Michigan became a state. The central campus...

Jun 23, 2012 - Flint, Frankenmuth, Bay City, Michigan

Flint, MI is an industrial city. It is considered the birth place of General Motors and GM is reported to have five plants in Flint. Flint's government is suffering financially and the State of Michigan is having to intervene. Carol and I have noticed how pleasant the people of Michigan have been. They have been very helpful and considerate. We stopped at Frankenmuth, MI to visit Bronner's Christmas Wonderland. Steve has to admit that I was amazed at how well this business is managed. The store is massive. It started in 1945. There is 2.2...

Jun 22, 2012 - We've landed in Durand, Michigan

As you recall our trip destination is Michigan. During our Elkhart stay we drove over the border to Michigan to visit Kalamazoo and St. Josephs. But we consider the RV landing in Durand, Michigan the "arrival". We were going to stay in a campground closer to Lansing but Carol found the Holiday Shores campground in a place called Durand (no city just a place) which better centers us in the middle of the places we want to visit. It's a pleasant place and a very large campground made up of RVs and Park models. Park Models have no wheels and...

R & B's TRAVELS

Jul 25, 2009 - Another busy day

Same location in Durand. Had breakfast at Bob Evans, then picked up my mom and brought her back to the park to see the coach. Went to Wal-mart and Sam's Club. Bought a battery pack for the new satilite dish I got the other day. Left it plugged into the truck last night and had to get a jump to get going this morning. Took mom to lunch at Halo Burger, then home. My brother,Mike, girlfriend and son picked us up and took us to dinner at Applebees in Owasso. Drove around a bit looking for deer, then came back to the coach. We are wooped again!...
