Sep 2, 2014 - Shipshewana and Paw Paw

We headed south to Shipshewana, IN this morning where we did some shopping. We got some nice fresh meat and cheese. Then we headed to Paw Paw, MI to a UPS store. On the way back, we stopped at a vegetable market. We picked up a few things and could not resist taking a picture of one of the huge cabbages they had for sale there. After that we came on back to the campground to begin getting ready to depart for Wisconsin tomorrow.

Sep 1, 2014 - Dowagiac

Severe storms were forecasted for today so we decided to stay close to the campground. We watched as everyone around us packed up and hit the road since the Labor Day weekend had come to a close. Then we went south to the small town of Dowagiac to have lunch. Unfortunately, all the restaurants were closed so we ate at Pizza Hut then came back to the campground. The storms never materialized and we had a nice relaxing day.

Aug 31, 2014 - Off Day and Chores

Rain was in the forcast today, so we decided to take a day off from touring. Instead we cleaned house, did some financial stuff, wrote postcards and went into the Village of Decatur for lunch. We had a great patty melt at a little local diner then went back to the rig. It rained off and on all day but there were times with sunshine. Every Labor Day, this campground has a Halloween celebration. The sun held out for the Trick or Treating, but the party was washed out with a gully washer. It was a good day to stay home.

Aug 31, 2014 - St. Joseph, MI

At last we had a beautiful day with clear skies and mild temperatures. We drove to St. Joseph, MI and headed to Tiscornia Park which is on Lake Michigan. We walked out the pier to see the two lighthouses on the point, the St. Joseph Inner and Outer lights. There was some wind and the river leading to the lake was pretty rough. We watched at sailboats and huge yachts went out into the lake. There were also small boats being buffeted by the rough water and even a few Sea-doos and a couple of crazy kayakers. After seeing the lighthouses, we...

Aug 29, 2014 - Saugatuk

Though rain was predicted, we drove north to Saugatuk. Our first stop was the Dune Buggy Ride. We made it on the first trip of the day. The rain had stopped and it was a little cool but dry. The Dune Buggy is a large vehicle that seats about twenty people but there were fewer than that on our trip. The dunes here were once covered with trees more like a forest than the sand dunes you normally see. Then with the Chicago fire, many of the trees were harvested and without them the sand began to blow. A small town called Singapore which was on...

Aug 28, 2014 - Off to Decatur, MI

Timber Trails Campground, 84981 49 1/2 St., Decatur, MI, 269-423-7311 This morning we took our time getting ready as we had only 176 miles to travel and could not check in before noon. We left Holly around 10:30am and traveled north on I-75 to I-69. Then we headed south to I-94 where we headed west. We stopped at Cracker Barrel for lunch then arrived at the campground around 2:00pm. The campground is very nice. There are a cluster of seasonal sights in some trees down on the lake. There is a seawall with about 30 boat slips, all full, so it...

May 24, 2010 - Decatur, MI

We started our trip to our next stop, Decatur, MI, slowly. Jay took a bike ride from the campground to Big Rapids, while I took care of some bills and straightened up the RV. Hmmm… seems like he got the better of that deal. Then we were headed off to the south to Decatur, a large farming area. When we pulled into the campground, the person in the motor home to the left of us was waving and he looked familiar. It was Dwight who was on the tour of Michigan with us! It seems he was staying here a few days and then heading to the FMCA rally,...

Wednesday, June 20th Traveling In 4 States We left the Wisconsin Dells area this morning traveling southeast on Interstate 90/94 a short way until I-39 joined the other two on the way to Illinois. Interstate 94 left us at Madison, Wisconsin and headed east to Milwaukee before it headed south to Chicago. We continued south on I-39/90 toward Rockford, IL.
