Aug 23, 2012 - two in one

Wednesday we started the day with a trip to Elkhart, IN to pick up our new chairs. We arrived at the factory without difficulty. That should have been our first clue! We checked in with the office and within minutes, the gentleman we dealt with on Tuesday got the ball rolling. We pulled over to the warehouse and two people loaded the chairs into the back of the car. A few minutes later, another person came over with the paperwork. This is where it starts getting interesting. When we asked about paying for the chairs, he asked us if we had...

Aug 21, 2012 - Triple Down

Sunday started by attempting to find a church service. We usually attend Colon United Methodist when visiting here, but when we arrived at the church, there wasn't anyone there and it was almost time for Sunday School to start. Soooooooooo we drove another 20 miles to Coldwater, MI to the United Methodist Church there. The service was advertised to start at 1100 and we arrived at 1045 with the service in progress. Since we hadn't missed much we settled into our seats. It is a fairly large sanctuary but there were less than 50 people there....

Aug 18, 2012 - Three in one

The last three days have been kind of laid back and easy. Thursday was the final day of the rally and it was filled with a meeting with Bob Byrne, the coordinator of the rally, as he was filling us in on plans for next year. He also asked for feedback on this rally and any suggestions for future rallies and trips. Right in the middle of the meeting, the skies opened up and it poured. Luckily we were inside. The rest of the day was spent just chilling and visiting. This was also the day that the service people came to do work on the RVs...

Oct 16, 2011 - home from here

It’s been a busy and exhausting three days as this was the wedding weekend. Friday started out cloudy and rainy, but by the time Bob and Phyl started out for Fort Wayne, IN to pick up Robin & Heather, it was only a little cloudy, but very windy! Of course in this area of the country when fall arrives with the wind comes cooler weather. Everyone had been watching the weather forecast for a couple of weeks hoping for a nice Indian summer weekend, since the wedding was to be outside. However, that was not to be the case! By the time the...

Oct 13, 2011 - 3-in-1

Tuesday was another non busy day. The day started with a trip to Walmart in Three Rivers for a few supplies. On the way back we stopped in Nottawa for some brats. This place has over 34 varieties of brats; we picked up about 12 different kinds, Beer, Italian, Green Pepper and Onion, Sun Dried Tomato and Basil to just name a few. This afternoon was devoted to a few last minute details, tightening up some outdoor chairs, finishing up the circle (cut yesterday) by painting it blue and refreshing some wind chimes. It's all coming together and...

Oct 10, 2011 - just hanging around

What a laid-back day! Most of the heavy decorating is done so there isn't too much left. Bev has all the ideas of the way Erin wants things done, so Bob and Phyl have just been hanging around today. Instead of a Unity Candle, there is going to be a Sand Ceremony. The area for the ceremony needed some setting up so that was the project for today. Bob was bored most of the day (can't watch TV in "G/G" so he went down to the lodge, but there's nowhere comfortable to sit so he didn't stay long).

Oct 9, 2011 - Sunday, not a day of rest!

No time for pictures today! After church, we got right to work once again. There were tables to decorate, lights to string up, and a TV to buy. Sunday is the day Bev drives back to Kokomo so she can go back to work on Mon, so we still did not get everything done she wanted done. But she left a list! So for the next few days we will be checking things off the list. One of these days Phyl needs to clean our "home" since we will be having company this weekend. So we had better rest well tonight for tomorrow it's time to put the pedal to the...

Oct 8, 2011 - the beginning preps

Today was all about starting the decorating. Only exciting thing to happen all day was a totally flat tire on the trailer (which couldn't be fixed since Bob couldn't get the tire off). We slaved all day sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping walls, floors and ceilings. Did not clean windows yet, but still have a few days. Martha spent most of the day in the various gardens, pulling dead stuff, transplanting live stuff and watering it all. Mid afternoon we took a short lunch break then slaved some more. About 6 pm we took a much needed "wine...

Oct 7, 2011 - Day of rest, sort of

The day started out with a bang, literally!! Bob goes to the grocery every morning to pick up the USA Today, but this morning, the grocery did not have it so he stopped at the local Shell station/Convenience Store. As he was backing up, he had to stop due to some traffic (Colon's morning rush hour which consist of about 10 cars). As he sat there waiting for the traffic to clear, a car driven by a distracted mother backed into the driver's door. There are about four very ugly scratches on the door about 18-20 inches long. Thank goodness we...

Oct 3, 2011 - prep day

The weather was been beautiful, let's hope it continues to stay for a week or two. Today was the prep day for our trip further north starting tomorrow, so we filled the car with gas, borrowed a small suitcase and bought a few snacks to add to our picnic lunch. The plan is to leave Colon tomorrow about 0930 and work our way north to Traverse City. Along the way Phyl wants to stop in Holland and visit the normal Holland sights (MI not Europe). After shopping at the wooden shoe and blue delft factory she wants to visit some light houses and...

Oct 2, 2011 - clean-up day

Sunday is usually a day of rest, but not in Colon, Mi at The Retreat at Miller's Landing. Since there is to be a wedding here in two weeks, there is plenty to do to clean the place up. Also the retreat is closed during the winter, so this is the time of the year when all the water toys are cleaned up and stored for the winter. Bev and Martha had some guests leaving and some guests arriving today, so there was cleaning to do between guests. That was pretty much all that went on around here today and tomorrow will be more of the same.

Sep 30, 2011 - easy day

Today was an easy day. Borrowed Martha's car to drive to Sturgis to pick up the rental, free upgrade to Hyundai Elantra with all the bells and whistles. After picking up the car, did some shopping at Walmart (where else?). Back at "G/G" Bob decided we should drive to Three Rivers to check out a bookstore (he was looking for 2 specific books). Found them both although if you could have seen this place, you would not have believed it, wall to wall, floor to ceiling shelves through 2 stores. One website about the store stated there were...
