Jun 19, 2016 - In Michigan

After Niagara falls we went to Niagara on the Lake. Just so beautiful. Said Hi to Lil's friend Petra who owns a furniture store there. Drove to London and through it quickly, had no reason to stop but it started to pour, really hard and we got a campsite at Port Glasgow but neither the owner or us wanted to get out in the rain so we sat in the truck for 45 minutes waiting for the rain to stop. Walked down to the lake Erie after supper and found lots of fossils. Friday we went to point Pelee and it was epic. Most southern point in Canada....

Sep 12, 2014 - Cheboygan River Lighthouse

We added one more lighthouse to our list today. We got the new book about lighthouses and realized there was another one right near us in Cheboygan. We went back for a second visit and got pictures of this one too. We also wanted to try the Friday night fish fry at Alice’s Restaurant, they serve fresh perch from the local lakes, it was delicious! Located on the picturesque Straits of Mackinac, Cheboygan is the gateway to the famous “Inland Waterway” – a navigable series of waterways encompassing three rivers and three lakes and 42 miles of...

Sep 8, 2014 - Cheboygan & More

We were on a mission today, to find the closest Wal-Mart. :-) We found it in the town of Cheboygan, Michigan. We really needed a total stock up after being in so many small villages with only one Piggly Wiggly Store. Before shopping we decided to check out the town. We saw a sign about a harbor area, guess what we found? Another lighthouse. They seem to be around every corner here. This one is also near a beautiful beach. We will definitely be making trips back to that beach and Wal-Mart. We also found out what pasties are today. We had...

Sep 7, 2013 - Cheboygan, MI

Sat, 07 Sept: A rainy road day. We knew our spate of gorgeous weather couldn't last. We awoke to leaden skies and a threat of rain. Fortunately the rain held off long enough for us to get Carpe ready for the road and Dinkum hooked up. Then it was time for hugs and good byes. We'll see the the Davilas in a few weeks, but we still hate to say goodbye We departed Carmen & Domingo's home about 0915 and drove north along Saginaw's Washington Street (M 13) to I 675 north. When I 675 rejoined I 75 north of Saginaw US 23 also joined for the run...

Aug 14, 2013 - Cheboygan River trip

It is so nice to have well-connected friends! Karen and Bob Cronin, friends from Florida who come to Michigan in the summer (some people can't take the heat!), invited us to join the Houghton Lake Yacht Club on a excursion. Of course, we accepted quickly; we are trying to see as much of Michigan as time allows. This trip was to see Cheboygan and the Cheboygan River. Our motel was perfect! Right on the river with all the boats (5 for this trip) in slips behind the motel...just a short walk from our rooms. We arrived Wednesday afternoon, and...

Jul 1, 2013 - Cheboygan on the River

We wrapped up our stay in Oscoda and set out for the 130-mile jaunt to Cheboygan. It was a pretty easy drive. We left late and stopped at Alpena for lunch. Then we were delayed a little for construction near Rogers City where we had to wait for a pilot car to lead us through the one-lane construction zone. From there it was smooth sailing to our destination for the next week at Waterways Campground. This is a small campground on the Cheboygan River, nice sites and super-friendly staff. We walked across the road to Pier M33 for dinner. This...

Sep 6, 2011 - On The Road to Cheboygan, MI

We found out this morning that it is still dark at 5:30. That was the time we set the alarm for because today was moving day. It is cold at 5:30, too. There was definitely "frost on the pumpkin" and I have pictures to prove it. We had all the packing done yesterday so the only things left to do this morning were last minute odds and ends and the usual outdoor moving day chores. After our showers, we leisurely enjoyed our coffee and then since we were in no hurry, we decided to go over to the Country Grill for breakfast. When we got back to...

Are We There Yet?

Jul 16, 2011 - What a wreck

Shipwrecks that is. We started our day by visiting the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center in Alpena MI. Didn't quite finish when it was time to take the glass bottom boat ship wreck tour. A beautiful clear day on the water for 2 1/2 hours touring 5 different wrecks. All these vessels were from the mid 1800's. The water was so clear and we got a really good view of the old scows. Came back and finished the Heritage Center then headed north. We made an interesting stop in Roger's City where we were able to go out a hard packed road right...

Aug 1, 2009 - Tunnel of Trees

Leaving Sault Ste Marie the roads took us to Cheboygan, Michigan. While here we took a rather long walk to the marina (yes, to look at boats)! Lots of Sea Rays were in the marina (not too many sailboats). After conversing with some week-end sailors we hiked on over to the shores of Lake Michigan. The weather is still very cool (60's and 70's)and great for riding (when it isn't raining). Our next day's ride took us to the western coast of Michigan (highway M119) to a twisting and winding road called the Tunnel of Trees. Many beautiful...

Jul 1, 2008 - Time flies when you are having fun!

It's sunny, 83 degrees, humid and we are on the New Jersey Turnpike headed to Lake George, NY. So much has unfolded since I last wrote, I'll try to catch you up. When we arrived at Dad & Di's on May 21st they seemed quite tired from visiting Gary, Di's son, at the hospital in Flint. Gary had a triple by-pass two weeks prior. After we got settled at the Holly KOA we met Dad & Di the next morning to start celebrating Dad's birthday. Not sure which one he is celebrating, but I really enjoyed making a pineapple upside-down cake to take to the...

Aug 17, 2006 - First Day at the Rally

Our first day at the RVW rally at Mackinaw Mill Creek RV Park. There are about 75 women here from the Mid-America chapter and the Michigan chapter, as well as visitors from Florida, Texas and several other states. The RV park is right on Lake Huron beach, with a view of the Mackinaw Bridge. We settled in today and had a bonfire on the beach to watch the sun set. What a beautiful sight!

Aug 10, 2006 - Mackinaw City, Michigan

Thursday, August 10, we drove to Mackinaw City, Michigan. It was a short drive of about an hour. We took our time and arrived at the Mill Creek Campground early in the afternoon. All of our sites were right along Lake Huron's shoreline. It was a beautiful view. We could see the Mackinaw Bridge and Mackinaw Island across the water. The Mackinaw Bridge was completed in 1957 and cost $100 Million to build. It is five-miles long and one of the world's longest suspension bridges. It cost us $8 to cross it and we were lucky that the wind was not...
