Jul 4, 2019 - Spartan

We got in no problem without an appointment, are in space 19 that is a pull in. The couple next to us in the American Tradition was here last year so it’s old home week here as well as at Decatur. There is a dump station! Found out it was JUST completed a couple of days ago. Wow, it’s right here in the campground so next year we can dump without going to the fairgrounds. There were fireworks but I slept through them, Ray said he could see some of them. It seems to be slow because of the July 4 weekend. We were pulled into the service bay...

Jul 23, 2018 - Chicken Gizzards

We are at the Spartan repair facility still. First thing Katie said we should be done by tomorrow early afternoon - that’s good news as we’ll be able to take the Badger tomorrow evening. They took the Eagle at 9 AM to start work today! Yeh! I went to the laundromat and will be able to get to the library today for tomorrow. I took the Pepsi back to Walmart - never should have bought soda in Michigan with 10 cents per can deposit. We went to Joe’s Gizzrard City in Potterville for lunch - was on Diners and Dives. It’s a dive - we sampled the...

Jul 21, 2018 - Gerald Ford Presidential Library

Today we took a long drive to Grand Rapids to the Gerald R. Ford Museum. It is very well done and brings back memories of Watergate, end of the Vietnam War and embassy evacuation, OPEC oil embargo, high inflation, etc. Gerald Ford was a good man and the museum tells of his boyhood including being an Eagle Scout, football player in high school and college, navy service in WWII and Congress, Vice President and of course President. There is a good exhibit about Betty Ford as well. Their tombs are on the premises and the museum overlooks the...

Jul 18, 2018 - Camp Spartan

We arrived in Charlotte yesterday, had a good choice of spots but saw the places reserved for the academy participants. Spartan seems to be more efficient and organized than Fleetwood but again the cats are in the coach without us today. The recommended maintenance is pricey but many items Katie listed we have never done so it’s probably about time. We are going to get Koni shocks put on the front and hope they will make a difference. The toll road 80/90 is just awful, we were beaten on that road and had to pay to be shaken about. I tried...

Jun 13, 2018 - Charlotte for service

Moving day but not really in the normal sense. Today we only needed to go about 110 miles to the Spartan facility in Charlotte, MI. Spartan manufactured the chassis for our bus. We attended their owners' school last year and had our annual service done. At that time, we made an appointment for this year for our annual service, and they will hopefully help resolve some of our lingering issues. So I took longer to make sure some of the pretravel maintenance we done. Extra flushes of the holding tanks, making sure all the tires had the exact...

Jul 8, 2016 - Spartan factory and service

Fleetwood trouble shot the smart steering wheel and needs a part from spartan. We decided to drive to spartan because we can get it today and if that's not the problem, they have other parts. Got to Spartan and even though they were at lunch the guy took us back into his office, got the part and helped Ray put it on. Still won't work, probably not the problem. We went to the service center, even though we had no appointment, they fit us in. Really great mechanic, let us stay in the Eagle with Reggie and Birti and found it was another part....

May 20, 2015 - Spartan Factory - Charlotte and Lansing Michigan

May 18-20, 2015 Toledo to Charlotte, Michigan and Lansing, MI Why don’t service providers do what it is they have promised? I say this rhetorically but seriously, we had a 7:00 a.m. appointment at the Spartan factory to get work done on our 15th anniversary, May 20th , and had been told that it would take a full day. We were OK with that and expected that, at the end of the day, since there would be several hours of daylight left, we would start heading south from Charlotte, Michigan toward Moscow, Iowa where we are due to get work done at...

Aug 5, 2014 - A Day With Pam

Pam and I met at Buckhorn RV Park in Kerrville, Texas a couple of years ago. Since we no longer see each other in the winter months we make a point of getting together in Michigan. Today I was invited to her farm in Charlotte ( couldn't make the invitation to her lake house in Tawas). Pam drove me all over her old stomping grounds - the farm where she grew up and the other family farm where her sister and Mom still live. We decided to lunch in Marshall at Schuler's. Soup and 1/2 turkey sandwich was every bit as good as I remembered it to...

Aug 29, 2013 - rant and rave

Going to RV service centers is not good for my blood pressure. Our experience here at Spartan is typical. We had a service appointment for 7am yesterday. We don't usually wake up until closer to 8am, but we were up and ready to go. There were many rigs parked around us. Some were visited immediately by technicians who drove them down to the service bays. After waiting an hour we left the keys with the receptionist and went out to breakfast. We also went grocery shopping and Ken got a haircut. When we got back from these errands the RV was...

Aug 27, 2013 - get serious

Our stay in Macinaw City ended with 18 holes of golf on a course that was less challenging than what we had experienced in Lawsonia two weeks ago, but provided lots of opportunities for losing balls beneath the trees and brush. We had fun, but struggled to implement the lessons we thought we had learned at golf camp. We met a pro who said it took him 14 years of constant practice to master the game. Only nine more years to go! Now we face a few days taking care of business. But before we got down to the business of traveling 250 miles to...

Jul 31, 2013 - July 2013

Lets see where did I leave off last, Oh yes we had just left the fairgrounds to head to Hiway Haven we arrived there on the 2nd and got all set up in this trailer park, it was very tight, I arrived there just ahead of Dave and just parked off to the side waiting for him to get his propane and then catch up. I did this only because I wasnt exactly sure just where I was to park the Beaver. Once Dave got there he whipped his coach right in where I thought he was going to be and I figured I would be parked next to him, well lo and behold the...

Epic Odyssey

Jun 13, 2013 - June 2013 The Journey Begins

So here we are and we're ready to begin our Epic Odyessy. We held our garage sale on June 8th and 9th and then went down to Elkhart, Indiana to pick up the coach that was at Mastertech Rv. WE had some pre-trip maintenance done just to make sure all, or at least most, was in order with the coach. We arrived at the fairgrounds on the 13th of June. No sooner than we had landed our camp host informed us that we were going to be charged for the upcoming Bluegrass Festival being held from the 17th through the 23rd of the month, but that we...
