Aug 28, 2016 - More life in our U.P. in Michigan

Our later July and August life in the U.P. Time passes fast when you are enjoying each day, and we thank God for every day He gives us. We cannot believe it is almost September and in a couple weeks, we will be heading back to our home in Southern Indiana to begin our social life of doctor’s appointments, grandchildren in musicals, sports, and honor events. We were busy up here in the later part of July and August. The biggest public event, of course was the yearly Antique Wooden Boat show which was the second Sat. in August. It was a...

Jul 11, 2016 - Back up in our Summer Home, the U.P.in Michigan

SUMMER IN THE LES CHENEAUX ISLANDS AREA, IN THE U.P. OF MICHIGAN We are here and it is nice! Cool breezes off the water, a few hot days, but haven’t had to run the air conditioner very much . As we crossed the Mighty Mac the middle of June, temps went from 88 to 55 instantly. Today it’s about 75 with a breeze. When we pulled in, we were greeted by our summer friends and lot owners of our campground, and the next day our 13 year- long friends, Jack, Janey and little Nestle their dog, came by for sausage and cheese omelettes for supper. Our...

Jul 1, 2016 - Les Cheneaux Area, Upper Peninsula Michigan

Click on thumbnails to enlarge Les Cheneaux Islands area – Cedarville, MI I was looking for a place to park over the 4th of July holiday. Four day holidays are especially busy campground days so I figured that it would be easier to find available sites in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. While visiting with brother Ron earlier this week, he mentioned a UP campground that he and Gert had visited 2 weeks earlier and so I called them and got a waterfront site for a week. So today was ‘move day’ and it was a major travel day for me (260 miles from...

Aug 10, 2014 - Goodby to the U.P. and heading home

Well, we are heading back home to Southern Indiana either tonight or tomorrow morning, a month early. Bitter/sweet summer. We have had a lot of fun activities and met some new people and got to know some better. A big thank you to Linda and Gary and Spanky (their dog) for camping next to us twice. I have included pictures of several activities we have done in the last two weeks. We went to our favorite roadside park and Raber's Bar one evening to celebrate Jan's birthday. Amy, Chris, and our grandsons, Jackson and Andrew came from their...

Jul 10, 2014 - Life in the U.P. with friends and robins.

Things are going slow up in the U.P. for us primarily because of lots of wind, cool weather, rain, and both of us feeling good to put the boats in the water and doing some improvements to our newly owned lot. But, we are working at our own speed, no hurry, after all, we really come up to our summer home to just do nothing if we want to. Please notice the picture of our boat. I really didn’t notice the cross until Sharrie and our daughter called it to our attention. We also have other residents on our lot, under our kitchen slide. A family...

Jun 17, 2014 - Back in Cedarville for the Summer

We are in our Cedarville, MI, U. P. summer home. We left a week ago last Friday, spent two days in Lafayette, In visiting with brother Bob and his wife Becky, then on to Goshen and Elkhart, IN for camper repairs. We stopped in Houghten Lake Camping World and ended up camping on their grounds. It is free camping, but by the time you make 3 to 4 trips into their store for purchases, it really isn’t free. So, we pulled into our Lot 9 at our campground early Thursday afternoon after our good friend Roger and one of the lot owners mowed our lot....

Somewhere along the way I lost track of the calendar. Stayed in Newberry two days, went to Pictured Rocks, and also saw Taquamanon Falls, played golf and Rj had his first pastie. Then on to Cedarville where our site looked out on Lake Huron and Les Chaneaux (?) islands.

Jul 20, 2013 - End of week with our family

The week is drawing to a close loaded with lots of memories of our daughter and our grandsons visit. They have lived on the water almost every day jet-skiing and boating. Wednesday we had our annual pancake breakfast on the water at our campsite and served pancakes, waffles, sausages, and coffee to 26 seasonal residents, our island friends, and our minister, Rev. Judy Arnold from Hessel Presbyterian church. We were really glad she came, and enjoyed visiting with her on a more personal nature. The next day Andrew and Don, with Amy at the...

Jul 15, 2013 - Visit with our daughter and grandsons

July, 13th our daughter and two grandsons arrived at 6:30 in the evening dead tired from their 12 hour straight through drive up from Evansville. They were so glad to breath in the fresh cool Michigan U.P. air. After a little dock time, they set up our guest tent, and all was quiet around 9:30. Sunday morning we all went to church and the local Cedarville restaurant with the church group for breakfast/brunch. It’s a good thing we all filled up with lots of food because after we went back to the trailer it was full bore all afternoon up...

Jul 9, 2013 - At our summer home again!

We arrived back up to our summer home in the U.P., Cedarville, MI, the Les Cheneaux Island area July 1st , just in time for July 4th celebrations. We were greeted by our good friends that are here every year, and learned that some could not make it because of health reasons. I guess we are all getting into that time of our lives. July 4th we had a cook-out with John, Judy, and Phyllis and Rich, and Friday, Jack and Janey, our island friends joined us for supper at a restaurant called the Snow’s Inn, and later we enjoyed outside music at the...

Jul 6, 2013 - Cedarville MI

If you were looking forward to a rousing, compelling and inspiring edition of our travelogue, you are gonna be disappointed. Since we have pretty much covered what we consider the interesting things around here, today was set aside as a restocking and cleaning day in preparation for us moving on to our next stop. We got the Jeep washed and bought some groceries but that was all we did away from camp. We didn’t do a whole lot else except for Michele doing some house cleaning and I did a little cleaning on the Jeep and RV. She made dinner and...
