Nov 8, 2018 - Lansing & Grand Rapids, MI

We went down to the hot/cold breakfast buffet with the usual - small egg cheese omelette, potatoes, sausage, cereal, etc. What was a pleasant surprise was that they had a waffle machine! Most of the hotels at which we have stayed lately have had the instant pancake machines. We were on the road to Lansing by 9:00 for the short drive to see the state capital building in Lansing. We got on the 10:00 tour with a school group of 4th graders from New Baltimore, in the north near the Canadian border. In talking with one of the chaperones, they...

Nov 7, 2018 - Flight to Detroit

If I had known that the flight was delayed because of the aircraft not arriving on time from Key West, I wouldn't have left work early. John picked me up about 2:20, then we drove to Middlesex County College to pickup Jean. We arrived at the airport about 3:15. We dropped off our bag (only using one since it is a short vacation), went through security using our TSA Preferred, although Jean was pulled for a random check. They only swiped her phone and ran the cloth through a machine looking for traces of chemicals. We had a long wait at the...

Jul 13, 2018 - Start of our jounery

Our Trip Journal for 2018 Friday July 13, 2018 We pulled out of Hal & Shawn’s this morning around 9:30A.M. , After spending about 6 weeks with them while the motor home was in the shop. While in Brighton I met many of Harold’s family and friends here in Michigan, all very welcoming and loving with good wishes for us on this new journey in life we are taking together. Not much for scenery to report, we did cross the Zilwaukee bridge, very impressive. We arrived at Lake of the woods in West Branch early, getting setup just in time for an...

May 9, 2013 - Day Before Launch

Well, it's my last night at home, and I'm setting up this travel blog to hopefully capture and retain some of my moments in Berlin and across several other European countries on my study abroad. My first six weeks will be spent in Berlin, at the TUB, from there to Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, France, and England. Listing them out now, it feels like there won't be enough time for everything that I want to do! Right now I'm just hoping that I get there safely.

Jun 30, 2008 - Bessemer, Mi to Brighton, Mi

Visited with Terry's family and headed out around 9:45 PM. We stopped at the Bessemer Pastry Shoppe - Really Good Stuff! We decided to take Hwy 28 following the north shore instead of staying on Hwy 2. We stopped in Munising at Muldoon's Pasty Shop. Linda is on a mission to find the best bought pasty and the best production. This was the best yet - BUT! Still doesn't beat Momma's. We dropped south after Munising on Hwy 77 and stopped in Blaney Park. It was a lodge from 1927 to 1979. A lot of famous people stayed there. Apparently Ester...

Oct 27, 2007 - Our Tree

Several years ago we decided that we wanted to do something different to prepare for the day that we died and how we wished our bodies to be handled. We had heard about Memorial Trees and thought that this was a great idea. We had spent a lot of time at Kensington Metro Park near Brighton, MI and thought that this was one of the most beautiful and serene places that we had ever been to. We went there many evenings when we were first married and trying to meld together two families. The stresses of the day would melt here while we counted...
