Sep 12, 2012 - Birch Run and outlets

Drove to Birch Run, MI to finally get our door window and awning fixed from the windstorm damage in Valley City, ND. We are camping at General RV tonight and have the first appointment in the morning. Since we arrived several hours before they closed for the day, we dropped the RV off in the parking lot then went shopping at the outlet malls for the afternoon. After finding more bargains than we expected to find, we went back to General RV just before they closed to park the RV for the night and plug in...we were happy to find they provided...

Summer 2012

Jul 25, 2012 - Birch Run, MI

The ride went from Mt. Pleasant to Birch Run, MI today. Birch Run is famous for its outlet mall -- oh boy. On today's ride, Michigan was like the rest of the midwest (corn and soybeans everywhere) except flatter. I had forgotten how flat cental-eastern Michigan is. It's like Illinois or Indiana -- you can see a grain elevator in the next county if you squint. All in all, a very nice riding day -- cooler with sunshine.

Jul 24, 2010 - Days 40 & 41

On the 23rd we traveled from Niagara Falls, NY through the Canadian Border at Rainbow Bridge and across to Port Huron, MI. We stayed in Smiths Creek, MI for the evening. It was a rough drive. Getting across the Border into Canada was a piece of cake. While traveling towards Port Huron a truck threw up a rock and left a silver-dollar size ding in the windshield. We tried to get it fixed, but it’s too big. When I get home, I’ll have to get a new windshield. It took over 2 hours to cross the border in Port Huron. Not fun! This morning we drove...

Aug 13, 2009 - At last: the Road-Master begins to share his HERW with the Grasshoppahs

Grasshoppahs, otherwise known as the students of the road-master, are always asking me to share my HERW (Hard-Earned Road-Wisdom) relative to avoiding difficulties that arise on the road. Usually their subtle desire takes a more oblique form, for instance: “What the f…. makes you think YOU know anything?” But, being the road-master, I know what they mean. Still, I recognize that I seldom do share my hard-earned lessons from the road, and, thinking back, I see that this is simply selfishness on my part and is therefore easily corrected. So,...

Aug 16, 2008 - Birch Run, Michigan

Saturday, August 16, 2008 This was the day that Brett and Kristin were getting married in Las Vegas! Edsel and Eleanor Ford’s House, Motown Museum, Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library, and the University of Michigan were places we visited while we stayed in Ypsilanti, Michigan. There were a few places we didn’t see because we had shortened our stay. It took Rick a lot longer to unhook from the utilities. For example, he had had to use 40’ of sewer line, which took longer to put away. While he was doing this a man from another RV came over....
