Sep 17, 2010 - Spur of the moment scheduling
Arrived here yesterday. We were headed East, staying just in the Eastern Time Zone in Indiana, ready to head on into Ohio. I was catching up on one of my birding magazines. There was a short article about a Nature Preserve in Benton Harbor, MI, which was noted to be 3 hours from Chicago, Detroit or Indianapolis. Since we were about an hour north of Indianapolis, so we decided we'd head North for a time first, and arrived later that day (yesterday) at a campground near Hartford, MI a few miles from Benton Harbor. Today we headed to the...

Jul 12, 2010 - Day 25 St. Louis - Benton Harbor, MI
Today was uneventful, other than driving to a new state. We arrived in Michigan about 5:30 this evening, and are now back on Eastern Standard Time. I am going to catch up on laundry while Chris and Hope go play in the hotel pool. Then, we're going to find a bite to eat, then hit the hay for the evening. Tomorrow we are bound for Ontario, Canada. We will be turning the cell phones off so we don't rack up any out-of-country roaming charges. If the hotel has internet, we will keep in touch that way until we re-enter the U.S. via New York on...

Jul 11, 2007 - Back on the Road Again/Benton Harbor, Michigan
After five fast weeks at the Lake of the Ozarks (better known as "the lake" to those of you in Missouri), it was time to hit the road again. The time passed so quickly, I'm not sure exactly where it all went. We spent the 4th of July on Gary and Darci's houseboat, had a great view of fireworks from the Lodge. We also drove back up to O'Fallon for Anderson's (the most beautiful Grandson in the world) first birthday, of which we probably took way too many pictures! He has grown like a weed and will be walking anytime, if he's not already....

Jan 4, 2007 - Holy cow, everyone around me is speaking English!
It's offical...I'm back in the United States! I honestly have to say that I think I'm experiencing more culture shock coming back than I did when I arrived in France. I was standing in the customs line in O'Hare Airport and I was just listening to all the conversations that were going on around me and I just couldn't believe that I was in the US. Everything is SO different here than in France. I was in a daze the whole time I was in the airport because I just couldn't handle all of the English that was being spoken around me. It was...

Jun 19, 2006 - St. Joseph, MI
We are staying at the St. Joseph/Coloma KOA in Coloma, MI for 2 nights. We are near the shores of Lake Michigan, which to the naked eye, looks just like the ocean. We are told that they even have weather similar to that of the ocean because it is so large. We checked out the town of St. Joseph - beautiful little town. Lot's of shops to see. They had a thing going with large sculpted bears that were in different themes...the beach bear in her bikini, the cool bear in his Hawaiian shirt, to Daryl Singletary in his 51 uniform. About fifty...

Jun 7, 2005 - Michigan in June
For the life of me why did we ever stay in Texas during the month of June when our kids are out of school and their kids are in school? Yes, the water is cold ... kids say cool. But the sky is blue, the sand is plentiful, warm and sugar-like, there is NO need for air conditioning and these little towns are better than just pleasant. Woke up this morning to my third day of birthday celebration - yes, I turn 50 on Saturday. The kids have hidden daily presents throughout the boat and todays treasure hunt - with 9 clues - took me from stern to...
