Jul 23, 2011 - Ann Arbor
Met up with Steve and Flo. We walked through the local farmers market and drove to Ann Arbor to take in an artsy fair in the afternoon. This fair was on the streets of the University and was huge. We parked across from the "big house" and rode a bus to the fair. Bill

Aug 2, 2010 - Searching for Fairy Doors...
Today we went to Downtown Ann Arbor, MI. We did get a late start, so our first stop was to Zigermann's Deli. Waited 15 minutes to get in, then, 15 minutes to get our food. Expensive, but good. Marge told us later that Zigermann's delivered sandwiches to Oprah. After that, we went searching for 'Fairy Doors'. Something that popped up in Ann Arbor, MI and is a fun thing to search for while visiting. Dinner with Bob and Marge again at Weber's restaurant. Resting at the room again. Lot's of TV. More Tomorrow. Bobby

After checking on friend Don after his operation we are heading to Mike Rose's (friend from AYH days as well) in this fine University town! We spent 2 fine days here visiting the University area, famous Zingerman's (delightful deli +), the public library-very high tech, Michael's sis, Chris & hubby Joel for a wonderful eve & dinner w/ their 2 companions Sophie (a Newfie) & cat, ?. A great time all round w/ Michael giving us abundant transport, food, and companionship (as well as sleep space, ha) we departed a bit heavier than we arrived!

Sep 1, 2008 - Football and Dan's bday in Ann Arbor
Hi Team! Well camp is over, no more kids and no more rules, sweeeet! Friday we picked up the rental car and headed down state for the big football game with 2 aussies from camp. The game was in Ann Arbor, just out of Detroit. It is the first weekend of the college football season and is like O-week back home. University of Michigan Wolverines vs Utah Utes. We went into the town/campus area before the game and it was crazy! Huge street parties outside frat houses just like the movies (incl red keg cups!). An hour before the game we found...

May 26, 2007 - Primary booster drops away
I have left Scott behind, and am back in America. After an angry man required my immediate departure from the bridge to America - ie, they don't allow cyclists on the Ambassador Bridge between Windsor and Detroit, and nor are there any other bridges - I raced back to the hotel, just in time to meet Scott, with the rental car he had hired for the day. Yay. So we crammed my bike into the car, and he kindly drove me across the US/Canadian border, and dropped me in "the ghetto" - one of the allegedly dangerous areas of Detroit that we had been...

May 18, 2006 - Driving into Michigan
Barb and Mary went for a shorter walk this morning. We were on the road by 9am heading for Ann Arbor, Michigan. We arrived at just the time Audrey and Rosalynn were returning from school. We had never met them before and had only known Wesley from Bethel. Jim and Gabrielle were good friends in Bethel. We had not seen them in 10 years...how time flies. They are moving to a new home in two days( just 4 miles away) so we went out for dinner to an Ethiopian restaurant. What an experience as we ate the entire meal dipping a tortilla like type of...

Oct 9, 2005 - Ann Arbor, MI
Arrived here visiting longtime AYH friend, Michael Ann Rose, her mom, and sisters family...lots of catching up and got great exercise doing some yard work which we thoroughly enjoyed altho found I(Tim) was VERY out of shape, ha! Michael & mom and sister, Kris, were super, their generosity and hospitality cannot be overstated! The fall colors are not really kicking in yet here like they were in the Upper Pen., the dry summer has taken a toll and the Great Lakes are at historical low levels! Still, the countryside is beautiful and it has...

Jul 28, 2005 - Our maiden voyage!
We needed to get the rig out on the road; the dream was one thing, but, being newbies, reality was slightly overwhelming!!!! We went to southern Indiana to visit family, traveling from Troy to Shipshewana (and camped with Amish folks), down to Muncie to hear our nephew's doctoral piano recital, down to Bloomington to be with our family, then back home via Grand Lake St. Mary's in Ohio. Lots of scary moments on the trip down, but confidence was discovered somewhere south of Michigan. All of our mistakes were inexpensive.....so far. Whew!...

Jul 24, 2005 - Yes, Michigan! (The fe-e-ling's forever...)
Ellen: Sorry, that title is from a Michigan tourism commercial, and I always sing it to myself when I think of the State. So, my brother and sister-in-law did us a huge favor disguised as us doing them a favor, and rented a car for us to drive from NY to MI (so we could bring some stuff out of storage in NY for Laura). We stopped in Hershey, Pennsylvania on the way, and it felt really nice to be on the road in the States for a change. We spent a lot of time with Ira and Laura, Mom and Dad, Julie and Steve, and Carrie, Andrew and Asher and...

Jun 23, 2005 - a world gone mad
well i'm back safe at home. back where people speak the same language as i do, and back where i know where i'm going without consulting an illegible map. it's funny to see how things look different now. krogers seems like this bloated, beast of a building which accentuates and caters to the gluttonous american way. where everything is built for convenience and accessability. in america, where speed and comfort are chosen over usefulness and necessity. ah, it is SO good to be back home.
