Saturday we spent an interesting day at the Norman Rockwell museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. For you young ‘uns, Norman Rockwell was a very famous painter who painted most of the covers for the Saturday Evening Post from 1916 to late 60s. His paintings carried important messages through decades of culture change – through the first and second World Wars, during civil rights activism, and served as a moral compass for many of us in the 50s and 60s. From Pine Hollow Campground, in Pownal, in the very southwest corner of Vermont. We came from the west, we’ve done the local thing, we’ve been to the north & we’ve been to the east. We’ll now explore to the south, which works out real well since that is where the Norman Rockwell Museum is, in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, about 40 miles away. We're Wingin' It

Oct 8, 2009 - Stockbridge, MA - Hancock Shaker Village

(Ron Writing) This morning we drove to the southwest edge of Pittsfield to visit Hancock Shaker Village. There are 2,100 acres with 21 nicely restored buildings full of original furnishings, artifacts, and tools. The huge 1826 round stone barn is a unique landmark at this site. There were docents in several of the buildings to demonstrate crafts and explain the life and beliefs of the Shakers.
