Sep 16, 2012 - Cape Cod to Foxboro, MA

The campgounds we saw were rustic and pricey, even in off season. Signs for lobsters and lobster rolls were everywhere. We rode down to the Cape Cod National Seashore and the Nauset Light Beach. Along the boardwalk to the beach were roses with huge rose hips. I've never seen them so large. From the beach, we headed toward the southern side of the island. We had to stop when we saw a sign for Chatham Coffee Company. Since our home county in NC is Chatham, we were intrigued. We were hungry, too, so we stopped there for coffee and a breakfast...

Sep 10, 2012 - Brewster, Hyannis, & Hanwich

From Eastham, MA on beautiful Cape Cod ... Monday, September 10, 2012 We had ourselves another fun day. And this morning we were greeted by sunshine! We all took a walk around our neighborhood and then had a light breakfast before hitting the road. Dad was our official tour guide today and had planned a full day of activities as we all set out on the road to do some sightseeing. We hit several spots in various villages today including Brewster, Hyannis, and Harwich. You can check out my photos to see the highlights. I especially enjoyed...

Sep 9, 2012 - Windmill Weekend & Lobster Rolls

From Eastham, MA on beautiful Cape Cod ... We had rain off and on all day today. But no worries, we still enjoyed the day together. For breakfast Charlie made his famous sausage gravy, and Dad made his family whole wheat biscuits. Very good, boys! Chara and Dwayne drove the Cape all the way up to Provincetown and then worked their way back to Eastham. Meanwhile, the rest of us explored the villages of Eastham, Orleans and Brewster. We found a really neat seafood shack in Rock Harbor. This is my idea of the ultimate road food find. Fresh...

Sep 8, 2012 - Travel to the Cape

From Eastham, MA … Saturday, September 8, 2012 We traveled today, so we got a fairly early start (for us). After a really good breakfast at a place called Congdon Donuts in Wells (they had much more than donuts), we were on the road. They did have an awesome bakery, and we purchased an apple pie for Dad (his favorite). I’m sure he will share with us. We drove only a few miles to York where we went to see the Cape Neddick Light. What a gorgeous setting this lighthouse was in! Unfortunately, the cloudy skies and light of the day didn’t...

Aug 3, 2012 - Crusin' Down the River

We headed out toward Sue's cousin Krissta and Peter's place on Cape Cod, driving down scenic route 6A. Along the way, we stopped for breakfast at a Coffee Shop in Brewster where Bill had Eggs Benedict and Sue had Celtic Benedict (with corned beef instead of ham). Yummy!! When we got to Krissta and Peter's, we headed down to the boat for a trip down the river almost to the ocean. Along the way, we saw beautiful summer homes. We beached the boat near the ocean and enjoyed the sun and scenery while visiting. We stopped on the way back at a...

New England Trip

Aug 2, 2012 - Chatham

Today we met Sue's cousin Krissta and Peter for lunch at the Chatham Bars Inn. On our way, we stopped at the Chatham Lighthouse and took some pictures then drove back to the Inn. The Inn is almost one hundred years old and very upscale. We had lunch on the veranda overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The food was delicious. We had a leisurely lunch with drinks and chatted for quite a while. After lunch, we went into the town of Chatham which is one of those wonderful Cape Cod villages, and took in an Arts and Crafts Fair and some of the shops....

Aug 1, 2012 - Off to Cape Cod

Beginning Mileage 25115 Ending Mileage 25241 Atlantic Oaks 3700 State Highway 6 Eastham, MA 02642 508-255-1437 8/10/8.5 The drive to Cape Cod was uneventful and short so we arrived around 12:30pm. The campground is on the main road to Provincetown and has lots of trees and very level lots. We found a nearby seafood restaurant and had lunch, then returned to the RV for much needed naps. (The late night Olympics are getting to us). We decided to go for a drive down along the shore and ended up at Nauset Light Beach. The lighthouse, which has...

Sep 9, 2011 - Out to Provincetown

Finally, the day was clear with only a little rain early in the morning. We headed out to Race Point Light. As we got closer to Provincetown, the sun got brighter and the day very clear. We stopped at the Visitor's Center and got our bearings and headed down to the beach. The old Coast Guard Life Saving Station where the crews lived in the fall, winter and spring seasons and saved those crews whose ship's were grounded on the shore or a sand bar off Cape Cod. From here we visited other beaches and then headed into Provincetown. We parked at...

Sep 8, 2011 - Rain and A Little Touring

It has rained since yesterday, we got in a little tour to the National Seashore Visitor's Center and a short drive to the Atlantic side of the Cape. The fog was so dense we could only see about 75 yards up and down the beach. The breakers we could see looked not that big. A few hardy souls were on the beach with their chairs as if it was sunny and warm. Actually it was about 60 degrees, humid and foggy. Some people were trying to get their photo with the surf in the background--probably ended up with just a grey background. Hope to see more...

Jun 11, 2011 - Provincetown,Mass.

Took a ride up to Provincetown today. Unfortunately, the great weather we have had is leaving and it is a rainy day. The town was actually the first place the Pilgrims came ashore in the new world before landing in Plymouth. There is a huge granite monument, the largest in the US that was built to symbolize that landing. We trekked up to the top and toured the museum. After that we headed down the main street which was full of shops and some rather risque couples, if you know what I mean! Off to see Ron and Gail Monday and then to Maine....

Jun 10, 2011 - Nantucket Island

Today we headed off to Hyannis to get the ferry to Nantucket. The ferry ride was about 2 hours getting there. Once we arrived we had about an hour before we met the lady that toured us around the island. Penny loved seeing the old homes and the flowers they have around them are beautiful. Many very, very pricey homes here. They start at $800K and go up from there. The town was really nice also with lots of shops. The main street was made from stones. We only spent about 4 hours on the island as it started getting very cool and foggy. We...

Jun 9, 2011 - Eastham, Mass.

Moved a little further out on the Cape today to a town called Eastham. Nice ride getting here through many quaint towns. Campground is a little disappointing for what they charge. It is very rustic with no paved sites or pool, but they charge like a resort! Took a bike ride for a couple of hours on this old railroad bed they have converted to a bike path.Gary & Penny
