Jul 9, 2014 - Learning about whaling

Another historic myth was busted this week. Let's have a show of hands for all of you who have been told the widow's walk on top of sea coast houses is for use by the womenfolk of seafarers to walk and watch. Not quite correct, according to the guide on our walk through the history of Falmouth. While true that the womenfolk were left with full responsibility for home during the long sea voyages. The fenced walkways were to allow those womenfolk to put out roof fires caused by sparks out of the chimney during dry seasons, without falling off...

Aug 24, 2013 - Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Depart: Boston Arrive: Cape Cod Happy Birthday Laurie Bradford An Underpass Too Low! We have had another great day of weather, around 22 degrees, no humidity. Nice peaceful drive to Cape Cod today, as much peace as you can get on the major highways here. We tried to go to Plymouth but the traffic was so backed up that we will try again when we leave Cape Cod. I think it is just a normal weekend traffic thing here. Imagine the traffic in Parksville on a warm Saturday afternoon, mulitiply the traffic x 1,000 and then times the distance x...

111015-Sat-I’m late tonight, as we just got back from Provincetown. We had a great time and the sun was out all day. We did have some rain on the way home, but it is dry at the condo. We ate lunch in Wellfleet. The vet called and Bob is not doing too well. We will probably have him put to sleep when we get home. They were having their oyster festival and it was crowded and then I never saw so many lesbians as there are in Ptown, as they call it. I got tired of crowds, but it was a good day and we saw the sunset, before we had dinner at...

111014-Fri-Today we went back to Cheatham to see the seals and eat lunch at the Squire. It rained later and we came home and I took a nap, but we had a good time. Also, we saw a lobster boat come in, and you can see the lobster in one picture (you have to look closely).

111013-Thu-Today, Jack and I went to Get new batteries for the trike, then got a mop, as I broke the handle on the one we had, then got gas and went to the bank. We met the girls for a soup lunch and came home, while the girls went on shopping. Later we went to Chatham to see the seals, then to dinner at a mexican place. Now are back at the condo, with pictures of the rest of the condo. It has 2 masters and 1 more bedroom, with a washer and dryer. It is nice.

111012-Wed-Today we went to the Heritage Museum and Gardens, the ate lunch at The Daniel Webster Inn. I had chicken pot pie. It was very good. It was on a puffed pastry and not on a pie crust. We came home on 6A and stopped for bloody mary makins. We plan to just stay in tonight as we are not very hungry. The weather was good - cloudy, but in the low 60’s.

111011-Tue-Today we went to Nantucket Island and had a great time. We ate lunch there and it was OK, but not great, but they did have great onion soup, which I had. Our weather was good - some clouds & some sun, but in the mid 60's. Good sweatshirt weather. Now we are back at the condo trying to find dinner. We just found dinner at the Brewster Chowder House. We will go within the next hour.

111010-Mon-Today, we drove to Cape Cod - Brewster MA. I put the last 2 days of pictures on. Coming thru PA was very pretty as the leaves were turning colors. In Cape Cod the leaves haven't started turning yet. We are with Frenee & Jack Thrush. We are all fed - we had hamburgers that we cooked on the grill - and we are all unpacked. It has been a sunny, warm day. Tomorrow we plan to go to Nantucket island and it should be sunny with a high in the 60’s.

Jun 26, 2010 - Day 106 - exploring the Cape

Well, I fulfilled a dream today but had a few surprises. Caryn and I had pancakes outside in our wooded setting and watched the boy scouts in the next spot. Theirs is a group site and they were there for 2 nights. Perfect neighbors. We headed down the Cape on Rte 28...the south side that wanders through several villages. Chatham was our favorite and Hunter got to go shopping there. We visited light houses, little harbors and almost made a wedding but didn't want to wait 30 minutes for it to start. I was really looking forward to a quiet...

Jun 25, 2010 - Day 105 - A Boat and Bus Dog on Martha's Vineyard

Being on Cape Cod is a very big deal for me. It has a romanticism about it that simple draws me to it...and has since I first heard Patti Page sing Old Cape Cod back in the 50’s. I checked my emails when I got home tonight and found one from my cousin Steve. He was among those I had told to lay off the ‘forwards’ until I got home…I just don’t seem to have the time to keep up with them, but he was smart enough to find an ‘original’ and made sure I got it at the right time. It was a link to Patti Page singing Old Cape Cod. Wow! I wanted to...

Jun 24, 2010 - Day 104 - STATE #28 - MASSACHUSETTS

Today was a 108 mile travel day from our great state park campground in Point Judith, Rhode Island to a privately owned, very wooded campground in the middle of Cape Cod. Cape Cod, of course, is the entire jut of land from the mainland that ends in Provincetown, Massachusetts, 3205 miles from Bishop, California along US 6. Good tidbit to know. Ya never know when you might need it. Caryn and I got all settled in our spot, but the Electrical Management System kept shutting down the power. The box outside was very hot. Campground owner came,...

We did not go anywhere in the RV today. Today we went to Falmouth after going to a craft sale in a park and then got my trike tire fixed again. New tubes. Apparently I ran over some thorns on the Audobon trail yesterday. Then it rained a little so we did not go on a bike ride but did go and tour Falmouth and had lunch at the Landfall Restaurant. After that we went to F&J's condo and played some games and had or'durves and then blueberry pie. When we came back to the RV we loaded the trike and Shirley's bike. We also saw some cranberries in...
