Oct 12, 2012 - Breaking Camp Today

Friday morning and up at 6:20 and enjoying coffee and the sound of waves crashing at the ocean not far from campsite #22. Electric campground full (38 sites) which is nice. Huge Class As, 5th wheelers, travel trailers, and pickup truck campers are all here. Tents in other loops with no electricity and lower rates. Hoping for a bike ride before putting bike & rack on ladder in rear. A couple bungee cords and a chain with lock holds it secure. Have the route planned out back to the farm for the 5 hour trip. Will dump tanks before leaving so...

Oct 11, 2012 - Lazy Day at ASP?

Up early (6:30) and enjoying coffee and the Internet. 42 degrees outside, so lingering inside. Reading from various RV forum sites about full-timing and extended RV vacations. Think I will be fine. Glad I've had this RV for several years and have made the proper improvements inside & out to run safely. 8:30 and finished w bathroom duties and off for a bike ride at ASP. Nice/sunny/brisk hour long ride. Spent hours cleaning RV and downsizing for upcoming trip south. Have bags of treasures to leave at the farmhouse. Another long bike ride in...

Oct 10, 2012 - Shopping Day

Had a morning bike ride and then unhooked and went to Ocean City (OC) for breakfast out. Pancakes, OC omelette w/ potatoes and coffee. Brought about 1/2 back home with me. On to outlet shopping for a few tops for CAT and one for me. Found a thrift store and bought a book for $1 and then to the Dollar Store for $30 in needed items for the RV. Had an extra key to RV made at True Value nearby. Filled w gas at $3.73 and bought a small sandwich from Wawa. Back to the campground (after being gone for about five hours) and listening to the ocean...

Jan 4, 2012 - Pre-Departure Day

Today is my last day in the United States for a while. I choose to put a picture of my family attached to this entry because they are the people that are sad to see me leave but excited to watch me go. At this point all I can do is hope that I am as prepared as possible; not only in regard to my things but also my skills and my mindset. Everything and everyone is telling me that I should be fine! Anyway, the true purpose of this first entry to is to say that this trip journal will serve a way for my loved ones, friends and hopeful some...

Aug 30, 2010 - Ocean City

The drive to Ocean City, MD took us south through Annapolis(again) and across the Chesapeake Bay. We are constantly amazed by the bridges. We traveled along the eastern edge of the Chesapeake Bay and across the bottom edge of Maryland. You could spend weeks touring all the towns on the water of the Chesapeake Bay. More beautiful countryside. Ocean City is your typical coastal resort. Geared toward the younger crowd, who don't mind putting on a bathing suit. We had a wonderful lunch at Phillips by the Sea. The restaurant was huge and you...

NORTHEAST TRIP 2010

Aug 25, 2010 - Ocean City Boardwalk

“It’s not about the physical location, it’s about the experience” I don’t know who said that, but I’ll use it here in this journal entry as Donna and I made the drive to Ocean City Maryland, the Boardwalk is the destination, ok, time to be a bit clearer, it’s about the Boardwalk fries and Fisher’s caramel corn, “as seen on TV.” (always wanted to say that) Let’s see if I can paint a picture for you, a cloudy day, school in session, the threat of rain in the ever darkening clouds, waves larger then normal, my guess is the soon to be...

Jul 4, 2010 - Happy 4th of July from Ocean City, Maryland

Happy 4th of July from Ocean City, MD. We arrived on the 2nd. And Gary & Liz came out to our campsite and took us out for dinner at an Italian place. It was good and really nice after a traveling day plus we got to visit with them. On the 3rd. we rode the bus from the campground into Ocean City to the boardwalk, which is several miles long on the beach with lots of stores for shopping and 2 amusement parks with rides. But that is not a good subject because all the rides had a 48” height and when Naomi stood by their sign, she was an inch...

May 19, 2010 - Maryland Seashore - Assateague Island

May 19 - Ocean City, MD We had an uneventful trip from Virginia Beach through two more tunnels under the Chesapeake Bay inlet and into Maryland. Our relatively new campground is not a KOA but will suffice for our two night stay. It is very close to the Assateague Island and its parks and reserves. We visited the northern, Maryland end of the island after we set up camp where I practiced my RV backing-in technique which needs some more work. :| National Seashore Assateague Island Info Website Seashore map of Assateague Island with Virginia...

Oct 17, 2009 - On the Road Again, Sort Of

Departed 9213 Rockcliff at 0906 and headed for Ocean City via Route 50. Lots of rain and wind which made final preps for departure nasty. When we got to Salisbury the rain stopped which was nice. Arrived at Castaway's RV Park at 1128. Castaway's has a real tropical flavor to it. All the building are painted Bahama colors. Our site was in the gated section of the park, which is fine. But they could not have made it any harder to get our rig in if they tried. A sharp left off a small access road with a coded gate that had to be opened, then a...

Sep 30, 2008 - Ocean City, MD

We only spent two nights in Ocean City. It is a boardwalk community that falls between the tawdry atmosphere of Atlantic City and the more upscale areas of Virginia Beach and Myrtle Beach. The campground was a nice enough campground but it was not convenient to the boardwalk and had a "beach" that was a small patch of shipped in sand on a river. Nevertheless we would have stayed here for another week - if the campground had been willing to deal. I offered them $25 per night for an additional week, but they didn't feel they could take that...
