Nov 22, 2011 - To Millersville, MD
On every vacation a little rain must fall. It is a rainy day. For variety, we drive The Trail (Route 14). The Trail is a scenic Virginia Byway that parallels Route 17. Scenic byway means it is not a straight road. It twists and turns. A little bit of this goes a long way. We leave the trail at the halfway point. We head north to Route 17. We want to be at Rips Country Inn for lunch. We relax in the afternoon. It looks like we will be home tomorrow. Campground: Capitol KOA

Nov 2, 2011 - Millersville, Maryland
We said “see you later” to our friends and checked out around 9:30 am. About a one hour drive around Washington on 495 to the Millersville KOA. Revisiting the past, we had stayed here in 1988. A short drive to Annapolis, the capital of Maryland. We passed through metal detectors, had to show ID and have my purse opened before we could enter the state house, that type of security was standard at most government buildings we visited. The State House was built from 1772-1779. The dome built from 1786-1797 is the largest wooden dome of its kind...

Nov 1, 2011 - To Millersville, MD
After quite a bit of last minute packing and hooking up the trailer, we pull out of the driveway. So far, the only thing I have forgotten is the apples. I have already told my sister that they are “available.” I do not think they will keep until we get home. We head across NJ to the Delaware Memorial Bridge and turn south. The GPS tries to direct us to I95. We put her on mute. Several times during the day, we look at each other and say, “Boy is it great to be back on the road.” We arrive near our campground in time for lunch. We have a...

Jun 24, 2010 - Heading north towards New York
The next morning we headed north towards NYC, travelling through a total of 4 states that day. Our one major stop was Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, which is (guess what?) the state capital. Their capital was actually very beautiful and worth stopping for. We arrived in good time at the Plattekill/Newburgh KOA (in the Catskills), where we had made a reservation and arrangements to store the motorhome for a three day weekend. That night we got out the suitcase and packed up the essentials. (and for those wondering, "kill" means stream in Dutch)

Jun 19, 2010 - Washington DC - day 1
Our time spent in Washington, DC were crowded, busy, and HOT - up to 100 degrees F. most days. We had rented a car for a few days to get around the area. In Washington you walk for miles along the Mall between museums and monuments, along with hundreds of thousands of others - thank Heaven for the water, hotdog and ice cream vendors at most corners! We had tickets for bus tour lines, but we didn't use them the first day. We got into the Capital buildings right away instead of waiting, but you didn't actually get to see too much of it on...

May 15, 2009 - Annapolis and the Naval Academy
An easy drive in to Annapolis, about 15 minutes. As you approach the center of the city all the streets become very narrow and as they allow parking on one side they are all one way as there is not enough room for two cars to pass. The streets and the sidewalks are all made out of brick and it is very colonial. We started at the State House which is the original building and for a short period of time was the capital of the United States. We were surrounded by groups of elementary aged children taking tours. All the tour guides were dressed...

May 14, 2009 - Headed to Annapolis
Slept in this morning. Decided to move on as this campground was so remote. Packed up and we were in an outlet mall that Marilyn had spotted by noon. Spent a couple of hours browsing (I bought new running shoes and we both got new raincoats at LL Bean) and then headed across the Bay Bridge to a KOA just outside of Annapolis. Nice spot. Set up and did some laundry. As we get closer to Washington the campgrounds get more expensive. (over $50). Thank goodness the price of gas is down compared to last year and we are traveling a lot less....
