Oct 2, 2012 - another travel day
Just another travel day in out nomeward trek. It was a tough morning with rain - intermiitent heavy at times (do I sound like a weather forecaster?). It did get better and then it wasn't a bad day to travel - at least no blaring sun either. We ended up in a comapground we had stayed in before (traveling with Cheryl and Gerhard) - one that I vowed I wouldn't stay in again. BUT, it was the only one I could find to get us off the road by 4:30ish. Duncan Family Campground in Lothian, MD It served the purpose - electricity (50 amp so we could...

Jul 21, 2012 - Day 4; lots of states and key chains
We woke up, had breakfast and got washed and dressed. We left camp at 10am ; we knew we had a long day ahead of us to get to Maryland. Today we were in 4 states: Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland. I bought keychains in Ohio and Pennsylvania. I'll get the rest of the keychains later. We drove over the Allegany Mountains. That was cool; we had a great view. We had a picnic lunch at a rest area in Pennsylvania. We drove around Washington DC to get to our campground but couldn't see anything in DC. For my activity today , I got...

May 2, 2011 - Home Again, Home Again
We made it home today listening to the great news about Osama Bin Ladin and traveling though an area about 30 miles NE of Abington where a tornado cleanup was in progress. Area was unbelievable in the destruction that the storm rendered. Houses were torn up, trees only had trunks remaining, and pieces and parts of everything torn up laying everywhere. These people and all of those throughout the entire tornado nightmare are really going though a rough time. We are happy to be home and celebrated by having sushi with the kids. Great time but...

May 1, 2011 - Travel Day
We have left the big city with all of its big decisions behind us. We're still in Virginia though at a KOA at Natural Bridge. Nice campground, we might come back here someday, definitely will not go back to Duncan Family Campground. Home tomorrow, sushi tomorrow night with the kids for dinner, and sleep in Tuesday morning. Just hope the good fairy is at home to empty the camper, wash and dry the cloths, wash the camper, clean the screened in porch, trim the hedges, pull the weeds, and mow the yard. The good fairies can't wait for the fun to...

Apr 30, 2011 - Dump Day
Yep that's right, all dumped, put up and ready to pull out in the morning for the trip home. Took our time getting ready today until we got hungry and went over to Galesville to eat. We went to Thursday's on Saturday but they were open and served us some good seafood. Been there a couple of times, small town on the West River that has 2 restaurants and nothing else. Busy places though because of several docks up and down the river. Must do a lot of sailing out of this area as you can see in the picture.

Apr 29, 2011 - Navy Museum
I realized last night that I had made a mistake in scheduling Steve and Dale for lunch today. Why, well the wedding started at 4 this morning. Guess who saw the entire morning’s worth?? I met Steve and Dale at the Matchbox on 8th Street near Eastern Market metro. Good place with a varied menu and a good overall area with eating places for 3 or 4 blocks. I went with Steve and Dale on down to the Navy Yard where Dale went back to work to make some FICA monies for me and Steve went into the Yard to a meeting. Navy Yard is older but really kept...

Apr 28, 2011 - Storm Day
With all of the storm pictures coming out of the south, I don't believe mine are very important. Watched the storms in Knoxville on WATE TV streaming and was really amazed to see the separate storms hitting Knoxville all at one time. Storms started here late yesterday afternoon and lasted through the night and into today. Had a bunch of storms flying but not anything like what was going down South. One of us did not get much sleep. And now the wedding, 4 is going to come mighty early.

Apr 26, 2011 - Smithsonian and National Building Museum
We visited the Smithsonian Castle today, the visitor center, the place we should have started…..but then we usually do things a little backwards. The Castle was the first building on the Mall, built in 1847, and is a great looking building inside and out. Several galleries are around and under this area. It also has several gardens around the building which are in full bloom. The galleries in this area were not really our favorite things we have seen in DC, or in other words, we did not understand them. We also visited the National Building...

Apr 24, 2011 - Ford's Theater, Pentagon, Kennedy Center
Happy Easter to everyone. We started the day at Ford’s theater, metroed over to the Pentagon, and then metroed and bused over to the Kennedy Center. Good day except for turning my ankle on a curb before we ever got started. Sherry carried me most of the way though so I have a good transporter for the rest of the trip. Ford’s theater was interesting being able to see the derringer that shot Lincoln, and the booth that he was shot in. Pentagon is so secret that you cannot take pictures of the metro station or the outside of the building. Guy...

Apr 23, 2011 - Dulles Air and Space
Yesterday wound up being a book day, we had rain, cold temperatures, and wind. High was 52 and today was close to 78. And I thought East Tennessee weather was strange. We went to the Air and Space Museum at Dulles airport today. Glad we did as it was a really nice place with a bunch of planes and space stuff. They even took us on a few flights, started out in an older biplane, then a Corsair, the B29 that dropped the bomb (Enola Gay), the Concord, a Blackbird, and then they even let us take the space shuttle Endeavor up to place a...

Apr 21, 2011 - Flower Power Day
We stayed on the East side of town and had a really good day. We had a couple of things to go back and see at the Capitol and at the Library of Congress so we started there and finished them. I ran over to the Folger Shakespeare Library to see the building and did not get in to see the theater, rehearsals were ongoing. I did get a few pictures of the Great Hall and like all things up here, big and expensive. We then went down to the US Botanic Gardens where, for a minute, we thought we were in Opryland except for the flowers; flowers were...

Apr 19, 2011 - Acting Like Tourists
Rained a little today and that set the mood for a wandering day, little of this and a little of that, just a relaxed day. We wanted to do Ford’s Theater but all the tickets were gone by the time we got there, so we started wandering. We went to the Old Post Office, 3rd best view of DC from its clock tower, on over to the Ronald Reagan Building, up to Lafayette Park, over to Pennsylvania Avenue and the White House, over to the Renwick Gallery, back to the metro, truck to the grocery store, and on back home. It did rain on us a couple of...
