The Patuxent National Research Refuge (Laurel MD) is the only National Wildlife Refuge(NWR)dedicated to wildlife research. Not all of the refuge's 12,750 acres are open to the public, but the North Tract has been available since 1991. This preserve is a microcosm of Mid-Atlantic wildlife nestled between Baltimore and Washington DC.
