May 7, 2013 - Through VA, WV, and into MD

One good thing, it wasn't raining when I unhooked water & electric, and hooked up my car this morning! I actually went about 50 miles before the rain caught up with me! I spent over an hour at a rest area in VA waiting for the heavy rains to go through. Oh - another good thing - I actually saw the sun shine for about an hour today! This was the first time since April 30! Woohoo! There was a tractor trailer flipped on its side over both lanes of southbound lanes of I-81 stopping that traffic for hours I bet. The backup was at least 4 miles...

Nov 21, 2012 - Now entering Maryland

Making pretty good time, lot of traffic though which we had anticipated. Traveling isn't too bad. With the exception of some minor electrical glitches, blower motor for the heater stopped working, then started again. Interior lights in the back have been intermittent, everything else has been all systems go!

Jul 24, 2012 - Mystery Solved

The mystery sighting in Utah has been solved. "Metaphor, The Tree of Utah" was sighted near the Utah border. The free beer, or in this case glass of wine, goes to Kathie Bomze. I would also encourage you to look at the daily journal pages again. Laura has updated them with her comments so you can see what really happened instead of my fuzzy recollections.

Homeward Bound

Sep 26, 2010 - Last night at home!

Well our bags are packed, the trailer is ready. Nothing to do but try to get a good night's sleep so we can get out of here early tomorrow morning. Amanda came out to help us finish putting things in the trailer, and Gaia was so freaked out -- she kept running in and out, trying to make sure we weren't leaving her behind. Tomorrow night, God willing, we'll be sleeping in Zanesville, Ohio.

Sep 24, 2010 - Departure day minus two

So. . . . today was the day to do major organizing in the trailer, since tomorrow we are going to the Renaissance Festival with RB, Liz, and our beautiful Greta and Lorelei. Of course, there is always drama. First, the fuse to the garage door blew, suggesting that the trailer battery problem wasn't just a glitch (trailer was plugged into house power overnight.) Second, it is an outstanding 95 degrees in Hagerstown. Not the time to be working in a small hot space. And so it goes. . . If we have to revise our departure date then I will have...

Sep 23, 2010 - Departure day minus 3

Picked up the trailer today, to bring it home for packing. Adventure #1: no ladder installed 'tho they've been promising it for 6 weeks. One hour lost at service center, task done. Adventure #2: trailer battery is dead after sitting on the lot for a month; service people reminded us we can plug the trailer into the car and use the car battery to raise and lower the hitch unit. Duh!

Aug 31, 2010 - To Hagerstown, MD

I get to sleep in again. Maybe I could get used to this. John and Justin are off fishing again. They get back around 9:00. Again, the fishing is good but not the catching. We pick up the trailer and head east on I68. We do not usually drive interstates but this is an exception. We have to get over the mountains. Even on the interstate, there is a lot of climbing! We stop for lunch at Penn Alps. We have stopped here before but the artisan shops were not open. Today we have a great lunch and then tour the shops. We have a long talk with a...

Jun 24, 2009 - Antietam , Maryland

We took the audio tour of the battlefield in the truck, it was pretty interesting for me. Not sure Uschi enjoyed it as much as I did. It all worked out because we spent the rest of the afternoon going through 2 or 3 Big antique store's and I picked up a few things. It was interesting, they really have a lot of old stuff there. The picture of the white building is called the Dunker Church right in the battlefield. The church was started by some German Lutheran Missionary folks. It was called The Dunker Church because when they baptized the...
