Oct 13, 2011 - Frederick and then Saint Albans

The rain started the day before yesterday while we were at Harpers Ferry and it continued with us, albeit sometimes spotty, yesterday and again today. There were brief periods where the sun broke through, but mostly rain. We spent most of yesterday in Frederick, Maryland. After seeing historic downtown Frederick we made a stop at Mount Olivet Cemetery. If you know me, then you know that I so enjoy the artistry of the old cemetery statues. I simply had to share some of those we saw in this journal. One of the monuments at Mount Olivet honors...

Jun 22, 2011 - Frederick, MD

We have moved from Cherry Hill RV Park in College Park, MD to the Elks Lodge in Frederick, MD. This is about 50 miles northwest of College Park. There are only two RV Sites (and I use this term loosely) with 30 amp service. The weather is always threatening rain, but has been hot and humid. Not unbearable, but uncomfortable. Thank goodness for A/C. The RV community has a saying about travel plans being cast in 'jello' or 'mud' or something soft and gushy. That is usually meant to mean we have the flexibility to go where we want and change...

May 25, 2011 - Medical Appt.

This morning got up early took great showers and Debbie washed her hair with lots of running water (not done in the RV that way). She was a happy camper. We then left and closed down the house around 9:00am. Stopped by the Post Office and picked up our mail. Then headed to number 1 appt. to pick up our eye glasses. Debbie's all time wear glasses were not ready so we will pick them up in late June when we plan to return from our northern adventures. For a short stay. Then off to number 2 appointment. Debbie looks like she will be getting...

May 23, 2011 - MD Samboree

We arrived this evening at the Frederick Fairgrounds were we will be helping set up for the Good Sam Maryland Samboree. That is like a huge party for RVers. With games, ice cream socials, meals, and lots of fellowship. The Samboree actually begins with early birds on Thursday, May 26 and ending Monday (Memorial Day) May 30. Should be a great week.

May 20, 2011 - FCRV

Today we arrived at Walkersville to attend the FCRV State Campout. Most folks arrived mid-day. Tom and I are looking to have a great weekend with friends. Finally after a week of unsettled weather the sun came out today. Yeah! Life is great. This evening Debbie called Bingo "Card Bingo" where you use a deck of cards instead of hard cards. Pretty neat.

May 19, 2011 - Elk's

After successfully getting our generator serviced. We had planned on spending the night at the Brunswick Family Campground in Brunswick, MD. To our surprise when we arrived at the campground it was under about 12 feet of water. The Potomac Rive due to all the rains was flooding a great deal of northern Maryland. So plan two went into effect, we went to the Elks in Frederick, MD and got to camp there for the night. They have all you can eat crabs for $25.00 for their members but unfortunately we did not have reservations made by 2:00pm the...

Apr 13, 2011 - Only 2 days to go

I awoke the other morning to a cold rain, dreading another day of work to get thru before I was on my long overdue vacation. When I check my email, I was pleasantly suprised by a new travel journal from my friend Stephanie. I have always her journals becuase of her adventures, quick with and outstanding writting. So as I read her journal on Spain I thought I would try my hand at for my trip to Florida. The Trip plans started after a 2010 that I would sooner forget, or at least put behind me. The year was rough to say the least, and during...

Jun 17, 2010 - Partying with Kas and Bill in Frederick, MD

Well FRD escaped from the glove department and we have been having a Pandora's Box experience. He does not want to go back so we have carted him around for the last two days. He appears to like the winery and tavern Go figure! We stopped at the Shenandoah Winery in Va. We had no idea there were so many wineries in Va. We have added that to our ever growing "bucket list." We are having a great time with Kas and Bill. They have renovated their house beautifully and the garden is not to be believed. The entire back yard is a beautiful garden....

Feb 25, 2010 - Only in the US.......!

A few observations........ You can buy weapons (e.g. hand guns/rifles, massive crossbows, wicked looking Bowie knives, etc) in Wall Mart alongside your weekly shopping (but can't carry it home on public transport) You must pay for your fuel before you fill up, but if paying by credit card (anywhere) you don't need a PIN, you just sign for it (and even that is not verified)! Dogs wear hats! (yes, baseball caps, stetsons, etc). It is not just the food portions which are huge - The standard Margerita measure would appear to be a pint. I...

Oct 20, 2009 - First Day of Dachshund Club of America Shows

Having entered a puppy for its first time in a show, we had to get up early (6:00am) get the dogs out and then get ready to go in and show my puppy by 8:00am. That is early for us. We made it to the ring on time. My puppy, FLASH was a bit distracted when we first got into the building with literally hundreds of dogs around. In just a short time, after getting his number and waiting to go into the ring, he and another puppy began to play. That was all he needed to realize that going to dog shows was a lot of fun. He was now ready to play...

Oct 19, 2009 - Moving on

This morning was showing signs of clearing up after severl days of rain. It was cold when I put the dogs out in the morning. Checked my LP tanks and found one of the two was nearly empty. ALso nearly empty was the fresh water tank so I put in about 1/3rd of a tank. I do not like to travel with a lot of water as it adds a lot of weight when traveling. After packing things up getting ready to leave for Frederick, MD we stopped by the office to get the nearly empty LP tank filled. We then headed out in what was nw a sunny morning. The trip to...
