Aug 9, 2011 - This Lily Pons Can't Sing
Tuesday 8/9/11 This Lily Pons Can’t Sing! Rain, Rain, Go Away! This morning the floodgates opened up and it rained like the dickens all morning putting a damper (pun intended) on our planned trip to Cumberland, Md. I snatched Plan B from my nether regions (back pocket) and read it aloud to the Navigator: in the event of rain we will proceed with all due haste to the closest Wal-Mart (Hagerstown) and shop for groceries. The Navigator then pulled her Plan B from her vast collection of “things-to-do” list and read aloud to me: in the event of...

Aug 8, 2011 - Angel Feathers?
Monday 8/8/11 Angel Feathers? We had 3 campers that were scheduled to leave today and all 3 were issues. One family started breaking down their camp around 9:30 this morning and it took them until 11:30 to leave their site; all they had to do was pack up a tent and go but they dallied all morning. After getting that site ship shape, we drove around the loop to assess the progress of the other 2 sites and the progress there didn’t look too promising. We waited until after lunch and took another spin around the loop and the two campsites were...

Aug 7, 2011 - Can We Dump While We Eat?
Sunday 8/7/11 Can We Dump While We Eat? While we only had 9 sites filled, 3 of them will be staying over until Monday, which means we have more clean up to do. The 6 people we did have to clean up after decided they would prolong our agony and waited until 2:00 to check out. Greenbrier’s policy is that you must check out before 3pm and incoming campers can’t access their sites until 3pm; sometimes we have incoming campers arriving at their sites before the previous occupants have vacated them. This all means that the camp hosts, in some...

Aug 6, 2011 - Who Dat?
Saturday 8/6/11 Who Dat who Say Who Dat When I Say Who Dat? Last night was exciting indeed; the radio started crackling about 10:30 last night with Sgt Jarhead reporting to the duty ranger that a camper in his loop came to him and said a snake was in his tent. The duty ranger asked Ol’ Jarhead to describe the snake and Sarge said it was about 2’ long and looked to be brown and multicolored. The ranger told him that he was going to get his tongs and a net and would meet him at the campsite. 10 minutes later the ranger called the NRP (natural...

Aug 5, 2011 - Ain't It A Peach?
Friday 8/5/11 Ain’t It A Peach? What great weather this morning and it lasted all day! A nice springtime breeze and temps perked us up and we decided to ignite a campfire tonight and enjoy the evening. I sat outside in my reading room devouring my tome of Sherlock Holmes stories and just plain enjoying the weather. Anita, ever the type A personality, opted to hike around all of the camping loops which adds up to about 3 miles of useless toil but that’s just me, I could be wrong. At least she had asphalt roads to guide her path and virtually...

Aug 4, 2011 - How Do I get back???? Don't comment on AT, kids!!
Thursday 8/4/11 How Do I Get Back????? Today started off magnificently- the rain has stopped and the temps are in the 70’s-and promised to be a great day for touring the mountainsides. Our first stop was the Washington Monument State Park; this is the not the Washington Monument your thinking about, but it is, rather, the first monument built to honor our first president. This monument is built on top of a mountain near Boonsboro and it looks very much like a giant chimney. The people of Boonsboro in fact built this thing in 1837 and the...

Aug 3, 2011 - One Little Indian, Two Little Indians....
Wednesday 8/3/11 One Little Indian, Two Little Indians….. We awoke to a tremendous sight-the juvies were striking their tents in preparation of returning to the bowels of their inner city Baltimore! The whole of Dogwood Loop, Upper and Lower are completely devoid of any camper, which means we have the whole bathhouse to ourselves until the weekend. Now, this may not seem like a big deal to you house-bounders but to us this is a major event. Peace and quite, no one to baby sit and basically nothing to do but sight see and read. Before...

Aug 2, 2011 - Did Ya Peek?
Tuesday 8/2/11 Did Ya Peek? This morning with the juvies back, Anita wanted to check out the ladies restroom to make sure it was ready to go: clean and supplied. Well, wouldn’t you know it the juvie girls tried to flush their feminine hygienic absorbent tubules down the commode and caused a minor issue. She was fit to be tied and put on her official Maryland State Park vest and marched determinedly up to “The Killing Fields” (that’s the large field across from us where the little darlings have their tents pitched) to seek out the counselor...

Aug 1, 2011 - One Good Turn Deserves Another!
Monday 8/1/11 One Good Turn Deserves Another! One of our two carryover campers pulled out this morning enabling me to clean up their site while the temps were still pleasant and the humidity low; however, the other campers seemed in no hurry to pack up get the hell off our loop. It was 1pm and they still were making no movement to leave. Mary Jo called Anita and rescheduled her dog’s photo session for Tuesday at 11am at her house. Since we had nothing to do until the lackadaisical campers decided to leave (they have to be out by 3pm), we...

Jul 29, 2011 - D54, Where are You?
Friday 7/29/11 D54, Where Are You? Great news this morning-the juvies packed up their tents and high-tailed it out of the park and back to Baltimore! We only had a few stragglers come into our loop this afternoon all of which were walk-ins; our reservation campers didn’t show, so maybe they will trickle in Saturday. I can’t see them going to all the trouble of setting up a tent for just a one-night’s stay. We had one older camper and is wife trying to set up their tent and he was reading directions on how to do it. Anita asked if every...

Jul 28, 2011 - Low Sodium Junk Food!!!!!!
Thursday 7/28/11 LOW SODIUM JUNK FOOD!!!!! We decided to take it easy today and rest up for this weekend; our loop is booked up and we will be meeting and greeting the campers as they arrive on Friday. After we checked out the bathhouse, Anita said she wanted to hike the orange blaze trail that goes from our campground down to the lake. I, on the other hand, opted to enter my incubator (screen room) and read my book and smoke a marvelous cigar that B.T. gave me for the trip. I turned on my outdoor fan and relaxed with my beverage of choice....

Jul 27, 2011 - If It Ain't One Thing, It's Another!
Wednesday 7/27/11 If Ain’t One Thing, It’s Another! T’was a beautiful morning-cool, fresh smelling woodland air and clear blue skies. Anita awoke full of energy and rarin’ to start the day with a bang and tackle the remainder of her to-do list; however an ugly omen appeared-her coffee maker over-ran and spilled coffee and grounds all over the galley counter and floor. This will set the tone for the day! Since the juvies use our bathhouse, we go down every morning to make sure the place is in order and supplied with tissue and soap. Anita...
