Sep 5, 2011 - Bill, Here's Your Cable!!!!!
Monday 9/5/11 Bill, Here’s Your Cable!!!!!! It rained all night at Hungry Mother State Park and the thumping of the raindrops awakened the Navigator at 5:30am. Most people sleep better with the sound of a gentle rain caressing the rooftop but not so with our dear Anita. I was sleeping like a baby and this evidently annoyed the Navigator and with an evil glare in her eye she awakened the slumbering pilot. She was determined to get and early start today. After breakfast, we started getting the humble abode ready for a long day of travel; it...

Sep 2, 2011 - The Long Goodbye!
Friday, Saturday & Sunday 9/2-9/4 The Long Goodbye! A high school had a field trip to Greenbrier so the kids could go swimming. You can’t imagine what I heard over the park radio: an autistic 15 yr old student was swimming out by the boundary ropes when he suddenly sank beneath the water. He didn’t come up so the lifeguard had to swim out to get him. The EMS was called and they arrived in time to resuscitate him. Now, here is the crux of the story-that beach was not supposed to be covered by a guard and one wasn’t scheduled but the head...

Sep 1, 2011 - They Are Barely Swimming!
Thursday 9/1/11 They Are Barely Swimming! Since we only have 2 days left before we pull up stakes and start our trek south, our zeal for camp hosting is ebbing. I think Anita is concentrating more on the friendships she’s made with Mary Jo, John and the Hostettes by spending what little time we have left with them. She is going to miss the camaraderie these people have brought into our lives. We have had a great experience here at Greenbrier that will stay with us forever and it is with great sadness that our time is drawing neigh. However,...

Aug 31, 2011 - He Must Be Used To It By Now!
Wednesday 8/31/11 He Must Be Used To It By Now! There wasn’t much on our to-do list for today so we just took it easy in the morning. Oops! I forgot we were a week behind in our ironing so we decided to catch that up before we had to wear fig leaves around the campground. After a hearty luncheon of a PB&J sandwich, we headed back into Boonsboro to do a little shopping for Jenny. Nora Roberts lives in Boonsboro and has a bookstore on Main St. and Anita wanted to purchase a book for Jenny since Nora is one of the authors she likes to read....

Aug 30, 2011 - And We Think We Had A Busy Day, Huh, Jen?
Tuesday 8/30/11 And We Think We Had A Busy Day, Huh Jen? We slept until 10:30 this morning because we were just plain tuckered out after our post hurricane party that kept us up until 11:30 pm. Anita printed out more blogs for Little Private Kenny and put 3 postage stamps on the envelope to guarantee its delivery. After lunch, the Navigator had arranged for the Hostettes and Mary Jo to accompany her on a geocache expedition through the verdant forest at 1pm. While I, on the other hand, opted to go to the library and work on the computer and...

Aug 29, 2011 - Good News and Bad News!
Monday 8/29/11 Good News And Bad News! It was really nice to wake up in our home park where we had hook ups for electric, water and sewage. It’s the little things that make your day most pleasant. Anita and I went into Hagerstown to replenish our cupboards at the Wal-Mart and, of course, we had to pay a visit to the dollar store to buy festive accoutrements for tonight’s after-the-hurricane party. After unloading the groceries and eating lunch, I headed to the library to avail myself of their internet connection to do some banking and blog...

Aug 28, 2011 - I Think I Detected Denim Moisture!
Sunday 8/28/11 I Think I Detected Denim Moisture! This morning after the “BIG HURRICANE SCARE” was perfectly clear and sunny even after the rain we had all night. Anita wanted to go geocaching at Ft Fredrick State Park because she heard there was 1 located here. Off we went in search of yet another hidden treasure; the infamous Navigator had her iPhone GPS pulled up and was tracking the ever-elusive cache. As we approached the fort her GPS indicated that we were within 6 ft of the little treasure but only when we looked round, we were dead...

Aug 27, 2011 - The Big Wind
Saturday 8/27/11 The Big Wind This morning started off pretty well heavily overcast skies and no rain yet. Ft Fredrick has provided entertainment for us today- they are having re-enactors portraying British and French soldiers and also re-enactors portraying the various Indians who fought on both sides during the French and Indian War. After breakfast, Anita and I walked up to the fort to see the re-enactment and to talk to some of the re-enactors about the role their subjects played in the war. There were a lot of people attending this...

Aug 26, 2011 - Get Out!!!!
Friday 8/26/11 Get Out!!!! This morning started off on a precarious note; we were awakened at 8am by a loud rapping upon our entrance door. It was the camp hostette from the Ash loop letting us know that Dan, the park manager, has called a mandatory meeting at 10am. All the rangers and camp hosts were in attendance to hear Dan announce that due to the approaching hurricane Greenbrier was closing at sunset today and wouldn’t reopen until Monday depending upon weather conditions and all campers were be out by sunset. The camp hosts were told...

Aug 25, 2011 - What A Good Boy Am I!
Thursday 8/25/11 What Good Boy Am I! Raindrops were bouncing off our rooftop all night and into the morning and that was a good thing because it chased our campers away and sent them running home. The sun came peeking out for a little while and disappeared behind more rain clouds but late this afternoon it cleared up. We are hoping with the hurricane threatening the coast and possibly going into the Chesapeake Bay that the campground will be deserted this weekend. Greenbrier has contingency plans in case things get a little dicey around...

Aug 24, 2011 - Shhhhh, Watch Your Feet!
Wednesday 8/24/11 Shhhhh, Watch Your Feet! We had 4 campsites waiting to be cleaned this morning and it was a great morning to labor in the great outdoors; the temperature was 68 degrees and there was a nice breeze whistling through the trees. Thank goodness these 4campers left relatively clean sites for us so we had our work finished before lunch. After lunch, we packed up our laptops and took off for the Boonsboro library to take advantage of their internet connection, which is much faster than ours. We spent 3 hours there catching up on...

Aug 23, 2011 - It Was So Good I Felt The Earth Move!!!!!
Tuesday 8/23/11 It Was So Good I Felt The Earth Move!!!!!! The Navigator was up at the crack of 7am and rarin’ to take off for the east of Maryland to check off yet more must see sights. All of the destinations she chose were most easily gotten to via Baltimore and then north on I95 but I challenged her navigational skills to plot a course using only secondary roads. She did an excellent job of it as we got to drive over narrow 2-lane roads through the country and we passed through some very nice little towns. Our first stop was Ladew...
