Sep 9, 2011 - Washington DC

Hi Guys, Well what a day we had today, we arrived in Washington DC at around 9.45am and walked straight to the National Archives where we viewed the Declaration of Indipendence as well ae the American Constitution and the Bill of Rights. This is a very good set up with the only problem being that you are not allowed to take any pictures due to the age of the documents, which means if your my age you have forgotten what youv'e seen before you've seen it. Next we strolled along the National Mall to the Air & Space Museum where we spent about...

Aug 16, 2008 - Quickball and the International Final

All the host families managed to gather enough kids each to enter a team of four kids into the competition- Amy's kids,The Bench Warmers- complete with high pants wearing... entered themselves into the under 12's competition and got into the finals by hitting well and fielding with enthusiasm. Tammy's kids, the Wild Squirels - yes that is how they spelt it- also made it into the finals and looked great in their team t-shirts and long red socks. Very swish but neither team managed to bring home a trophy. The parents watched and danced and...

Aug 11, 2008 - Game 3 - Canada

Australia Vs Canada We played on the main stadium under lights which was very atmospheric, although the supporters must have been tired as they were a whole lot quieter than for the previous game. Robbie was the first batter of the game and made a great hit and made it to first base, then managed to steal across to 2nd. The next batter hit safe too and Robbie ran to third, then followed that up by scoring the first run for the game. The Canadians were kept scoreless for the first 5 innings as Louis Thorpe pitched very well and the...

Aug 10, 2008 - Game 2 Australia vs Dominican Republic

this game looked like being a repeat of game 1 with Australia starting off with 2 runs on the board and the opposition leaving the first inning scoreless. Then the big guns came in for Dominica and suddenly the game changed with a 5 run inning. The Aussie boys played brilliantly in defence but the power hits came thick and fast. All fired up now, Australia battled on and scored a home run hit and the crowd went wild. There was so much noise one spectator went deaf. The defence went on and kept the Dominican team scoreless, so the crowd...

After a very exciting game against the Dominicans, David and I went to Havre de Grace and found the local seafood Festival- The last time I went to a small town fair in America I saw things I had never even imagined before, so Ithought this would be a great experience... Well, this was like Bubba Gump territory and the fair was reminicent of Bubba telling Forest of all the ways you could make shrimp... there is shrimp gumbo, fried shrimp. barbecue shrimp( Not Aussie style) coconut shrimp etc. As you an see, this was pretty much the same-...

Aug 9, 2008 - First Game

The First Game Australia Vs Mexico Australia started batting and scored a great sneaky run in the first inning when the fans from Australia went off with plenty of noise and flag waving with all the cheerleading props that Tammy had bought for the supporters. As per usual, Tammy made sure there was lots of noise and that everyone was entertained. The first inning saw the first home run, hit by the big scorer from last night in the Mexican team. Fortunately there were no other runners on bases, so the score was even going into the second...

Aug 8, 2008 - Opening day

At long last the wait for Cal Ripken World Series has ended. He even got to feed all the kids and families with a Outback Steakhouse meal. The kids hoed in with gusto and so did the adults. We have lift off and everything we hoped for has happened... We have the team on the baseball field. Ok They aren't playing, but we get to watch the boys show off their skills. They had a run relay around the bases, where Australia lead off the competition and lead with a 27 seconds of running by two of the boys- but by the 5th team, we had been beaten...
